People who sit off in a corner killing each other, lower the score and ruin the game for those trying to play it and win.

Perhaps you're the one not fully aware of what padding is. It comes in many different forms and includes many actions. In the simplest form, it is doing something to artificially add points to your score without genuine effort on your part. It allows you to move forward and removes the team aspect of the game which detracts for other players.
Spawn camping as stat padding is relative. Hell, with your example of spawn camping as stat padding, i could call the use of planes as stat padding.. Artillery drops could be called stat padding by your example..

As far as i see it,Spawn Camping prevents your enemy from advancing to objectives, ie capturing flags, therefore is a valid tactic..

Using jets and firing arty are not the same as sitting staring with your weapon trained on a spawn point waiting to see someone appear. That is an insane jump in logic and not one that I alluded to.

It's all relative, which is what i said..

I believe you can pad your stats better in a Jet, than camping a spawn point; therefore jets are bigger stat padders than spawn camping.. IMO, but i would like to see someone statisticly prove my assertion wrong..

Okay so please inform me how to make it so that you can prevent your soldier from spawning into the middle of the tank's crosshairs.

It is also a cowardly way to gain easy points since the person cannot defend themself. With this strategy, you're not looking to fight man to man, you're looking for points. You might as well push for a mod where one side gets weapons and the other side has no weapons and is forced to run for cover. It's the same net effect.

Arty is not in the same category; a coherent strategy to take out the assets prevents their use. And commanders dont get points per kill, their score is relative to how their team does.

Planes used to be in the same category. Now, we have 1.21.

Now, you could suggest the always famous "well, spawn somewhere else!". True. And if there's another guy camping at that location? "Well, spawn somewhere else!" Ok...[rinse and repeat].

You get off on fighting with people who cant defend themselves. That's cool. Nothing to add to that. It speaks volumes.

Let me repeat the point in question, because it bears repeating. Your team loses points when someone dies. That being the case, those guys could cost you the round. That does not affect your game? You could be having an awesome time with your buddies while the round ends prematurely because two idiots are playing "punch the clown" in cyberspace. It would seem you do not understand the point here.
I have no problem booting padders off public servers. I agree they just take up space and should be treated just like an AFK/pain in the ass player.

I also understand your point about the ticket system and again, I have no problem booting them off public servers.

The problem I DO have is with the Nazi Germany witch hunt mentality so many people in this community seem to have.

I'm not sure if any of you padaphobic types know this or not... but a lot of the people playing bf2 right now have no clue that a lot of the things they are doing constitute "terms of service agreement" violations with their player accounts.

              Let me explain.

I came to this game from enemy territory, and in that game, as well as others like counter-strike, pistol/knife (or whatever) only servers are very common.

Some go there for fun, some go for practice.
Until reading about them on various bf2 forums, I had no clue they were "illegal" (and had no reason to assume they were).

Not everyone who plays bf2 comes to these forums, hell I got the game when it first came out (just really started playing it a few months back though) and I never even bothered to come to any public bf2 forums until recently.

I did not even know a "rules of engagement" article even existed until a month ago.

I'm not saying this is the case with every "stat padder" obviously, but before you people go on some holy e-gamer crusade think about this:

Imaging you are just some kid who got this fun war game a few months back.
You've gotten a few ranks, unlocked some neat guns, you're having a blast.

Them all of a sudden you log in one day and everything has been reset to 0.

You then check your e-mail and find out it was because you went to a pistol only server one night to get some practice.

Umm... where was the in-game pop-up that said doing that would get my stats reset?

              Yeah there wasn't one.

              Another thing, the map glitches.
Every online game I have ever played has them.
People find them, use them, sometimes admins boot you for it, in the end the devs fix them.

But finding a developer mistake in the form of a map glitch can get your stats wiped?

Again, where was the in-game pop-up telling me this was a no-no?
I see plenty of in-game pop-ups telling me to buy expansion/booster packs... I know it would not be hard to explain this to players in this format.

All I ask is that before anyone goes off trying to get people banned/have their stats reset, try talking to them like a normal human being first.

And judging by the hourly number of "I CAUGHT A CHEETER PADDER BAN HIM!" posts on the bf2 ranked server site, no one here can seriously tell me that is the usual first course of action.

And before anyone assumes it, no I've never padded or had stats reset.

Everyone has opinions of what stat padding is.. Doesn't make anyone correct.. Except when it comes to the basic definition of players gathering away from the focus of combat to gain points by doing repetitive, non team objective based actions - ie. heal and revive teh same player over and over, or sitting a vehicle in water and repairing over and over, or flying a plane outside boundaries to acquire damage which is then repaired, etc...

As for spawn camping being cowardly; that is opinion, not a reason to call it stat padding. Fact is- it does prevent your opponent from advancing to their objectives, and that is a strategy of war..

That would suck. The case you described is reasonable. It begs for forgiveness.

The problem is that the BF2 world is loaded with the I PWN YOU fags who think they are superior human beings by virtue of a stat or two. I would guess that 99% of the padders are in this category. So it is with great anticipation and a glorious sense of revenge that people like the bear feel justified in "catching" one of these arrogant bastards and show them some humility.

I see your point, but I agree with the bear.

spawn somewhere else or switch squads and spawn on a squad leader who is somewhere else.

You are guaranteed two points when he spawns with no risk or danger to yourself. That is padding. Until someone artys you or otherwise kills you, you are guaranteed a steady stream of points while never engaging in a fair fight.

Oh I totally agree that there are far too many people who think stats equal skill.

Like I've said, I've only been regularly active in this game a few months and I can't help but notice that the higher the rank... the (generally) lower level of skill present in players.

I spend most of my time ground fighting (I came from a game where aim and reflexes in close quarters combat was the primary requirement) out of habit, and when I stumble upon a player with exceptional gunning skill, he's usually pretty low ranked.

If i can be artied or someone can kill me, then i don't see how spawn camping is a guaranteed 2 points.. I have killed spawn campers after spawning, so i know it is not a guaranteed 2 points for the camper.

A "fair fight" is relative and needs defining before used in this case..

Then they were a poor shot. A poor camper. You seem to be a "good" camper (that's praise). So YOU are guaranteed 2 points until someone ELSE and not the spawnee kills you.
