Re: Steel beasts Pro
It does look nice. I like the detail on the far away hill in the second picture.
How much is $125, about £60-70? I would be prepared to spend that on a very special game, one that I really really wanted. I guess I'd read more about the game, and it's features etc, but I don't I would spend that much on a simulation type game.
You could buy both GR:AW and Enemy Territory:QW and still have some money left over, right? That would be my main consideration.Comment

Well simulation genre is going to develop so much that games aren't really games anymore. They start to be more like tools and programs, and that's why the prices are that high.Comment

Did make me wonder whether this sim was developed for training purposes.Originally posted by Sir. King CockeryWell simulation genre is going to develop so much that games aren't really games anymore. They start to be more like tools and programs, and that's why the prices are that high.
There has been a few 'games' that have been used like this, one that springs to mind was Full Spectrum Warrior, I'm sure there are others too.
So yeah, I agree with your comment. Making such a realistic game is gonna force prices up, which is ok if you sell it to the Brittish army, or get some similar big deal to recoup costs.Comment

Re: Steel beasts Pro
I read an article a while back that stated this game was indeed intended as a training tool. They dumbed it down a bit to get the revenue from us die-hard sim fans.
I also think what Sir KC said was a proper analysis of the sim genre.Comment

Before deploying to Iraq. We had a copy of a pre-release version of the game. It was OK. Definately not worth the $125 (Unless you are comparing it to getting a Cav Troop into SIMNET to train).
Wasnt overly impressed but I guess it taught some BASIC fundementals...
Of course I never saw the benefit of FPS games teaching anything about MOUT/UO that you couldnt do better by simply "doing it". Get better training walking through and describing the actions that take place as oposed to moving a mouse/controller to 'play'.
