Battlerecorder 1.21 doesn't crash but still broken

Battlerecorder doesn't crash any longer in 1.21 but its still broken. When you hold down the Q key for the menu which includes playback speed and most importantly the restart function, none of those work. Before you say you can use the number keys to change speeds, I know that already and have always used them though I use to be able to use the restart function now I can't.

Its a real pain to have to disconnect and reload up the BR demo just to restart it. I have tried to find a console command, but have drawn a blank so far. demo.restartdemo comes up with unathourised method, which is like when you try to admin using the rcon but haven't enetered the rcon password. Does anybody know if there is a console command to restart a BR demo, until fingers crossed these functions will be fixed again.

I can't believe after fixing the crash they still didn't test BR and find out these functions no longer work.

I know what you mean I like Gimpy's idea of being able to set index markers, so you could go back to a set period in time of the demo. With restart not working now its even worse than it was before.

Well I just tried it again using a different demo and now it works, be stuffed why it wouldn't work with the 1st demo I downloaded. I shut down BF2 several times, rebooted the PC and still the Q menu functions didn't work.

Now with a different demo, it works, bah who knows why it didn't work and now it works again.

    So please delete this thread.

      Yup. It's a shame and a pain.
They obviously didn't test BR much.

What drives me nuts is it has so much potential as a very cool feature, yet it hasn't been given any attention.

Anyway, I figure there has to be a console command for "restart demo", but I've so far been unable to find it. Anyone else have a full list of BR commands that I might have missed?

What programs can you use to watch a demo instead of BF2? I know that you can use some software for it, but I have not found any good info..?

          Er.

You have to use the BF2 engine to play back BR demo files. The files are nothing more than lists of commands fed to the server while the game was in progress. Trying to play those lists without the engine would be... pointless.

Battlelauncher is a frontend that takes care of demo/camera/mode managment without making you learn the launch comandlines, but it still has to fire up the engine in order to play anything back.

In theory it could be possible to write a wrapper that would enchance the BF2 demo playback, but it would be a rather major undertaking and would require someone with some serious code skills (way beyond mine) to invest some time in it.

          That's kinda Dice's job.

I mean, during the 1.2 patch demo disaster, the demos could be downloaded and played though fraps I think...Is this incorrect?

              No.
              Incorrect.
              Also, totally impossible.

Re-read the info I presented to you in the above post.

Fraps has no access to the BF2 engine. It's just a screen recorder. How is it supposed to generate demo playback?
