I need help with ports that are closed and can't seem to get them open, even after port forwarding, because I get the error cannot connect to the Steam network... when I try to log in, so I scanned with a dslreports.com tool, showing me:

UDP ALL CLOSED We received a response packet that no service is available.

I need the certain UDP ports open in order for me to be able to log into my Steam account, which has most Steam games (HL2,CS,CSS,CSCZ,HL2DM,HL1,BS,HL1DM) etc since I haven't been able to log into my Steam account for 7 months now, I have tried everything but reformating (Don't have the Windows disc) and came to the conclusion this seems to be the problem, I did forward ports on my router, same problem, also disabled Windows firewall, so what I really need is someone who knows alot about this.

Try going into your router and putting you computer in the DMZ breifly (or just skip the rounter and plug your computer straight into the modem). If it works then the ports are definately your problem. I however doubt they are your problem.

Tried plugging my cable into the modem and I had no internet and a sign in the taskbar saying limited connectivity, with the caution sign.

You can give your oppinion, I mean i've tried bassically everything there is to try, so any new suggestions is a big help.

Did you try setting your computer in the DMZ zone within your router?

I really don't have a clue how to fix this, I have tried everything, tech support of Valve told me theres nothing else they can offer me, this is bull$hit, I buy a product that will last, not this half assed program, thats got anti-piracy so far up the ass its constapated with problems. Steam causes more problems then it does good, fact is im told this is a generic problem, so its nearly impossible to identify the target on spot. Would a reformat do good? if it will solve the problem then I will get another copy of Windows XP, but I haven't reformatted in nearly a year, so maybe somethings screwed up along the lines, but don't really want to format as I have alot of stuff on here I need and all my games are working fine no problem, but if the format will let me log into my account on Steam then I will.

A reformat always does a computer good, and usually will solve most problems you are having. Just back up your stuff and you should be good to go.

hmm don't have any big enough flash drives or a 2nd HD, Splitting my C drive into a 2nd drive then back up my stuff to the 2nd drive, reformat the C drive would work?

Yeah, resize the C partition, create another partition, and then move your stuff to the new one will work just fine.

k ty, but for BF2 when I re-install that and BF2SF, applying the patches would be what? is there a patch that patches BF2 from its first version all the way to 1.21?

Instll BF2, install SF, patch to 1.21
