What can I do about high ping since 1.21?

Since 1.21 I've had a handful of servers under 100, (3-5),a few in the 100's(3-5) and most over 200 with about 900 on average...is this normal? and is there any way to tweak your system to lower your ping?

AMD 3200+ 2.2 ghz
1.5Gb Kingston KVR
Powercolor x800 GTO 128
MSI socket 754 RS480 MOBO

After installing 1.21 i had the same problem as you.also the server browser was really sloooow.i think the lowest ping i ever i had was 156.
what i did was uninstall my nvidia drivers and downloaded the newest one installed that and ran bf2.After that everything was back to normal.so my advice is to try that.

I'm using ATI and have the Catalyst 6.1 driver.....I read that the 1.21 was going to adress some ATI issues but was unclear as to what issues exactly......thanks for the advice.

try unistalling your drivers and reinstalling,it work for me.don't really understand why though??

Oh... high ping is cause of the patch? I actually hadn't even thought of that. I've been having some ping problems. All happened on one day for the most part so I figured it was just net congestion or some user flux in the Roadrunner grid. Was the first time I ever got kicked for high ping! I went from 40 to 500 and spiked all day. Now I'm pretty much back to normal. Who do y'all use for internet? And did it just happen two days ago?
