8x.xx and AMD761 or AMD762 chipsets

I would like to know if ANYONE is running ANY series of nvidia 8x.xx drivers on a motherboard that has AMD761 or AMD762 chipset.

I just bought a 7800GS for my Gigabyte GA-7DX+ to replace my 6600GT but I cant use it : below is what I wrote to the card maufacturer, also wrote to nvidia. Both are zero help.








Driver installation halts and goes to black screen with blinking cursor. It does not recover and you must reset computer. If you let it boot to XP you can go as far as the XP loading screen then black screen with 5 green dots in top left. Again the only way to recover is to reset. Can only boot to safe mode when 8x.xx drivers installed.

I have a 6600GT that will run on my computer with any 7x.xx drivers, but all 8x.xx drivers have the same error. I just ran the 7x.xx series drivers. Problem is I purchased the 7800GS and this card is not supported by any 7x.xx series drivers. I do NOT want to return this card but obviously it is not going to work.

I emailed nvidia as well, they sent a prefab response that the new 84.20 beta drivers would address the issue, but those drivers have, of course, the same problem. There are several forum threads going now about this problem but I guess nvidia is ignoring it.

Well I see no one will ever add to this but I managed to get the card installed using the 7x.xx drivers by pasting the manufacturer ID into the inf file for 78.05 vers and it worked. That is, i was able to play for a few hrs no problem then the next night after the second CTD I changed the video settings and it locked up. I was able to tab out and here is the error i was getting:

memory.dll: sanity check: block size 1400140815 (1335.28MB) doesnt seem sane

i clicked continue and got:

memory.dll: all alloc attempts failed for size 1400140815



so basically i think since i pasted in the card ID but the drivers dont "know" the card has 256 it isnt allocating memory over 128? whatever it is it means BF2 isnt working again. sheesh

Well I read up on this error and found others who had it, one guy said it was system ram related (i thought at first would be card related, something to do with my 'hacked' drivers). He said he went into BIOS and dropped the ram latency down a bit (slower) and that he stopped getting the error. I tried this, and when I went to restart got an error saying XP would not boot due to a missing or corrupted system32 dir. Wonderful!! Tried to do a repar from XP disk but could not get past admin password request. At this point I went to a local computer store paid a premium price for components, bought a new mainboard and cpu and reinstalled XP from scratch

Seems to be running now.

Except I was gettiing major slow down in game after a while, and only when I zoomed in with my guns scope. No idea what thats about, other than "it never ends"

I am starting to think I will always have issues no matter how good my hardware is
