I always wonder what does that circle do when it appears on the screen during the lifting of the chopper...(it will disappear right after, and will reappear again when I land)

The circle is a hoover indicator. When you are hoovering perfectly level the circle should be in the center. -

It's also an enemy target warning indicator...
If you are seeing it, while flying, you are the most easy target for enemies...
