        Ok here we go again...

All maps that contain a capturable main base that has artillery pieces attached are as follows: (64 player variants)

Wake Island: Chinese airfield (3 artillery pieces)
Kubra Dam: MEC Airfield (3 artillery pieces)
Songhua Stalemate: Chinese HQ (3 artillery pieces)
Strike at Karkand: MEC Factory (2 artillery pieces)
Sharqi Peninsula: USMC TV Station (2 artillery pieces)
Dragon Valley: Chinese Airfield (3 artillery pieces)
Mashtuur City: Both teams have capturable mains however since there are no uncapturable flags on this map either no cannons are converted, so these 2 factors cancel each other out. No conversions on this map.
Operation Clean Sweep: MEC Airfield (3 Artillery pieces) < However due to the large size of this map, quite often only the northernmost artillery cannon is converted because of the large distance to the USMC main.

The process: We shall use a Wake island round as an example, you are the Chinese commander.
How to capture artillery: USMC forces assault and capture the Chinese Airfield, spec ops forces destroy your artillery pieces. Now all commander assets have a respawn time when destroyed, this time is typically between 3 and 5 minutes. If your artillery is still destroyed when that respawn timer expires then the artillery cannon is automatically restored to full health. If the opposing force (My USMC team) is still in control of your Chinese airfield when that timer expires then control of that artillery cannon is transferred to the opposing team. After the conversion if I were to fire artillery at a target area then the 3 cannons on the small island, and the captured one on your mainland would fire at my command. Now if one of your guys were to repair that cannon before the respawn timer expires then you retain control of that artillery cannon. The same is true in reverse, meaning if you were to retake your main base and destroy the artillery cannon that I had captured, let it respawn, then it would then be back under your control.

Now this process applies to all of the maps and flags I have designated towards the top of my post. This applies to Artillery ONLY, you cannot capture the enemies UAV trailer, or Sattelite communications dish (Except on Kubra Dam, there is a BF2 bug there that renders your sat scan trailer and UAV trailer useless after the enemy captures and holds the "Intake" flag for a certain amount of time).
OK, that makes some sense, but I don't understand why this is a 'hidden' feature. How are you supposed to know who the arty belongs to?

Don't get me wrong, I understood your explanation, but the arty swapping thing just confuses the hell out of me.

How are you supposed to know who the arty belongs to?

I have had this quite some times in 1.12, mainly on Wake Island, but also on other maps. Haven't seen it in 1.2 nor 1.21 yet, but it seems it's still there then.

Take a look at the artillery piece. It should have your flag on it if it is your teams or the other teams flag if it is theirs. Also you can look at the compass/mini map (upper right) if it shows an artillery icon where you are looking then it is your teams. Enemy artillery etc.. will not show on this unless it is destroyed then it will show in yellow.

Also note I have seen two out of three artillery pieces may belong to one team and the third to the original team. Just because one artillery piece is converted to your teams does not mean that they all are.

Yes the minimap is the easiest way, if you approach enemy arty to blowup, just glance at the minimap beforehand to 2x check.
