Of course!

Defragging your HD gets all of your files in a contiguous order -- that way the HD doesn't have to frantically search for files while playing a game, resulting in better performace -- both FPS wise, and in terms of loading times

use a registry cleaner before playing as well .. helps seek times a little

Wrong forum, maybe our one of our humble moderators can move it. This should probably be in either Support or Hardware. Along with the other 100+ threads that address how to optimize performance in BF2 (and in general). If there is anyone on this forum that finds defrag to be a revelation they should check out the TweakGuides for Battlefield 2.

I found O&O defrag to be a great asset.

Now that is a meaningful defrag tip. Install the patch. Run the game once to optimize the shaders. Then run defrag.

I've seen threads on here where people have said things like uninstall BF2, defrag, reinstall bf2, defrag, install SF, defrag, install patches, defrag. Waste of time.

Diskeeper 10 Pro, defrags every night while I'm in bed. Just use the "Set It and Forget It" option, select when you want it to run and it comes on analyses the drive(s) and defrags as required.

I wiped my computer and reloaded windows. I now get less than half the load times i used to on the same settings!

That is most likely because you started out with clean installs of the latest drivers for everything. You could have accomplished the same thing by using DriverCleaner and installing the latest drivers. Spyware could have been a possibility too. Plenty of free programs out there to take care of that.

Wipe and reinstall is like giving chemotherapy for the common cold. Overkill. My dad does it about every quarter, which usually corresponds to the last time he saw fit to "tinker" with his computer. If I had my way he'd be banned from owning a computer so that I don't have to take his regular support calls

I haven't formatted my computer in a year, well nearly a year since May.

It sucks because I really need to format as I have alot of problems that aren't really fixable without a reformat, too much junk etc, already defragged a few weeks ago, but anyway I don't have the Windows disc as the comp didn't come with it, just pre-installed.

Yeah O&O is a nice program. This morning I set it to defrag on boot, so it even does system files. As I left for work it was happily going along Analyzing and should be down long before I get home.

my defrag takes about 15 to 30 seconds, because I do it very often. Any time i delete my cache(which is quite often as bf2 likes to change my video settings alot, like today im running all low to play in 64 player servers, and when I just loaded strike at karkland it was on at least medium or high, Its starting to get on my nerves bf2, im just trying to get my score to 20000 then im done for a while.
