S2A and A2A behaviour in 1.21 vs helos

I haven't played extensively with the new patch yet but they seem to have made the flares even less useful than before. The fixed the glaring bugs where the missiles would zig-zag under the helo or get stuck on a flare and hit you when it dissipates. There also seems to be less stray missiles but stray missiles appear to be somwhat more lethal.

What I have noticed is that flares are increasingly ignored by locked missiles. The only reason I can think of is the smaller viewing angle of the missiles making them ignore flares more easily because flares don't appear in the missiles LOS.

What are your experiences? I don't have very much data to go on yet so I would appreciate input.

I imagine that they wouldnt be very effective unless combined with some form of evasive manuevers, I usually try to initiate a dive and release flares simultaneously so that the flares stay around my chopper as I dive for cover (provided there is cover to be taken) and find that it works pretty well against the AA now (except wehn i get the looping missiles that eventually get me). I imagine with the decreased viewing angle of the missiles that this will become much more important while flying a plane and a chopper.

The narrow view angle will make it more difficult for missiles to track the target. However, this would make the missile more likely stay with the original target, on the same course, rather than switch to another target i.e the flare.

      Is this a bad thing?

Has the change made it so that more skillfull players can score a hit?

Diving works very good for prolonged cover. That is not an option under some circumstances though. Evasive maneuvres seems to have zero effect. I tried some seriously fast barrel rolls against an AA site but that had no effect what so ever. I don't think the helos even have the ability to evade a rocked under normal circumstances (no bugs and the rocket doesn't go after another target). The old 90 degree tilt with full thrust hasn't had any effect since 1.2.

My problem is that neither flares nor evasive actions has any impact sometimes. If you can't evade the missiles without flares then flares should give 100% cover.

Evasion is a desperation move anyway in real life!
You don't want to get a lock on in the first place!!

Flares should at least work SOME of the time. Doesn't seem like they work nearly at all.
