New patch -> reinstall -> BF2 crash on start

I need help. This crap with EA and DICE is ridiculous.

I install 1.2 patch, i get the unmodified content error, and i don't want to deal with that whole hassle.

So i uninstall the bf2 core game (not SF or the demo) and then reinstall it. It installs successfully on the first time.

So i load up the game, and it gets to the point right before the login screen, then gives me a blank screen and finally a crash to the desktop. This happens EVERY time.

I feel like an idiot for doing all this, but could anyone enlighten me on how to fix this shenanigan? I can't find anywhere people with my same problem. Was it because SF was not uninstalled first?

Hmm didnt happen to me... Try uninstalling everything including SF

Yeah, try pulling SF out too. A friend of mine had issues that sound much like yours. Pull everything out again, re-install BF2, patch to 1.2, install SF, re-patch to 1.2, then install 1.21 (you know you're going to have to anyway).

Or you could wait till EA offically releases it and there should be a full 1.0 to 1.21 patch version out.

thanks Wargimp. BF2 is such a pain in the ass...

I was thinking of just installing bf2 original until the new patch is officially released. Or i might stick with 1.2 if my fav servers do.

thats why im waiting for the official release. Some of the prereleased prob have leaks in it. It will cause you to re-install bf2 and all the patches.

I feel your pain bro, I truly do..But this is fo0king hilarious. Who ever thought that after installing a patch that is supposed to fix a game would make you have to uninstall the game and have to do everything from scratch. That truly blows dead goats. So much BS with EA/Dice, at this point it is just hilarious, one clusterf*ck after another...ROFL!!! :yay:
If you buy the booster pack, those problems should go away...LOL!!!

I Installed the full version of the 1.21 patch (yes it's out and offical, multiplay.co.uk got it from EA tonight.) and mine runs fine loads faster and not so much wait at the verifiy stage either.

Played a few rounds as my fav server has been updated ( 85.236.101.45:16667 [PTG] - City Maps Only - #1 ) and it ran fine, not tested AA yet but the shock paddle bug is still there.

ive had this happen, the only way to get it to run correctly that ive found is to completely uninstall it. and that requires a few steps

1.) control panel, add/remove remove battlefield2 and special forces

2.) go into regedit, and do a search for battlefield* (as in wildcard on the end *) and delete any references to battlefield 2

3.) go to your my documents and copy your profile out to a safe spot. i found that with a reinstall, the profile that is saved sometimes will NOT load up. try going into the game with the profile intact in the place it belongs. if the game still crashes, then REMOVE your profile from its said spot and relaunch the game.. my guess is it will run fine at that point, and you get to spend the next hour remembering how you mapped all your keys and recreating your profile.
