    Stuttering video

Whenever I'm in the vincinity of arty/'nades or other concussive force my video hangs up and...for lack of a better term...stutters.

Anyone seen this or have an idea what's going on?

If you have the $, go for at least 9800 pro (MSI makes a real good one) 256 mb video RAM. But. if you can go for a X800 series card.

and bump up to at least an Athlon 64 3500....

I have seen San Diego Core 4000's for >300.00.

At those moments, your video RAM and CPU are maxin out-cant handle the textures, sound et...particularly the video card.

If $ are a problem, (and you may have already done this but) reduce all video settings to 1024x768 all other settings to low. go into your driver settings and set those to "Best Performance" settings. Make gradual adjustments from there for the best performance.
But the 9600 is definately gettin long in the tooth

Oh, I notice that you are using the latest drivers from ATI.
With the age of the 9600, the 6.3 may not give you the best performance.
Go into Goggle and check "ATI 9600 Reviews/Benchmarks" look at what driver series they were using, then add like one full series. Try out the OMEGA 4.11 as I recall, they were good for a 9800 card I had.
