    Problems with terraintextures with TPaint...

This texture is made with TPaint.

1.When you are far away the beach looks like ROCK but when you are close you can see the SAND. And SAND is what it should look like. But why does it look like ROCK from far away?

    2. When you are close to the texture and you move further up the beach the sand turns to grass just as i want it but the problem is that you still can see the sand through the grass. Do I have to play around with the "grad_height.tga"-file to solve this problem?

Thanks for your help! / Andy

I think there is a way to adjust how the 2 textures blend. I think the default setting makes them so there is a slow transition from one to the other. Check the instructions on the web link Tpaint has and see what it says.

      hey thanks,

yeah i know it should work playing around with the grad_height.tga-file but i wasnt sure...i tried once without results...but i think thats it...

Have you got a clue on my number1-question?....That when you are far away from texture it doesnt at all look like sand anymore? Maybe it should look like that but im not happy with it....

Have you set oyur low detail textures for your layers yet? Also, the 3 layers need to be set right. Look in the tweak bar under each texture layer and you will notice lowdetailtexture setting of 0. This number can be set to 0,1,2. Which I set my grass to 0, sand to 1 and moutain walls, slopes to 2 and this really made a HUGE difference...

yeah i read about that and from what i understood slopes should be set to 2 and horizontal textures to 1. Thats what i did.

I tried playing around first but i got weird results sometimes...
But i can try some more...

But now when you mention it i remember that the TGA-files in the bf2_tpaint\data-folder looked strange...the one that was supposed to be the Sand-one looked like stone....but i dont know why :)

Cool, it actually got a bit better turning SAND to lowdetailtype 0.

Oh but wait a minute! Am i supposed to have choosen colortextures for the layers as well? I have only choosen detailtexture? Could that be the problem? :)

Tpaint has default color settings it uses. If you want to change the colors, you'll need to open the data folder in tPaint and manually adjust the 3 .tga files in photoshop to whatever color you want. Then put them back in the folder and run Tpaint again.

                yeah youre right! remembered that....

Funny though that tpaint after running the exe-file decided to give me this TGA-file for low-level (SAND) -textures :)

i wonder on what information TPaint decides what TGA-files to use?
