    Defense..

Most people would be surprised of how effective this is, and how much fun it is, not to talk about all the points you can rack up doing it..

Have you ever noticed how the average BF2 player is in a constant hurry, always pushing on to the next flag blitzkrieg style, ending up earning a purple heart because he just ought to hug that tank?

Well, here is a simple guide to earn more points whilst getting a good KD ratio.

    Read the situation
Make sure your team arent bleeding before you get to comfortable in your foxhole, we want the other team to go home in bodybags, not you.

This can be ignored if you have a competent team who knows how to take flags, if this is so, dig down on the chokepoint nearest to the frontline.

    Use everything to your advantadge
Almost every flag in BF2 are ideal for defending, there are TOW/HJ8's everywhere plus mounted machineguns at the best possible locations, use them.

Think of the squad layout, this can only be done if your playing with competent people, wich you really should do in all scenarios.
    -Big open maps:
    2 Support
    2 AT
    1 Sniper
    1 Medic

The support and AT guys/gals should team up in 2 stationary groups defending hotspots on control points, the medic should be checking up on those two groups ever so often, and the sniper should find the best possible spot, and go back for ammo with the two groups.

General rule for open maps and defending: stay the hell away from vehicles that show up on plane HUD's since youll be a sitting duck.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    -Close quarter maps
    3 Support
    1 AT
    1 Spec Ops
1 Medic (a really good one)

Here you need awesome firepower, plus the ability to blow up lots of infantry with the press of a button.

    Ambushing
If your enemy tends to go one way, this is one hell of a easy way to get sick points, mind you this takes a gut of concrete since you have to wait for the right time to strike. Mind you that you need a really mature squad for this.

This is one of the few tactics you can do singlehanded or with a very little squad.

The roadside bomb: A well know treat that you can use C4 for or Claymores for FAV/DPV's, the best part about this is that you dont have to be nowhere near the hotspot. You can stop convoys with this and get AT soldiers to light up the rest of the vehicles.

If you do infantry ambushes or flag defense ambushes you need the steel gut if you dont use C4. Remember its always best to shoot them from beheind than a frontal confrotation, this is basically the main idea of ambushing.

Its best to improvise, and remember suddenly destroyed bridges is a great way of both confusing and crushing your enemy..

I hoped this guide was helpful to you, and if you have any critique or additions, feel free to post them..

    See you on the battlefield

    Nice tips

When I was just starting w/ BF2 I really just stuck with Assault and Medic because I was familiar with the gaming style from 1942. However, lately I just cannot stop playing Engineer. As I posted the other day people tend to go the same paths a lot and are very predictable. I usually drop a couple of mines in very common access points (making sure to save 1-2 mines for later) and go with my squad to the next destination. That way I know that even though I am gone some tough guy in a tank might be having a treat.

Ambushes are great I totally agree - especially staying out of sight until it matters. Nothing worse than 5 inf coming from nowhere paying you a visit!

Oh yeah I forgot, dont set up your ambush the same place twice, but be sure to have the site in sight from your new spot, lots of kills aswell, lol..

            Re: Defense..

as of late defense is my favorite thing to do.

i set up 150-200 from a flag, and defend it with all my might, but its great when im in a squad and am squad leader,as the at/medic/support can keep tanks from poping up,and it also works pretty good on attacking a flag with that kind of team work.
i held a flag for 15 mins on sharki on my own with the occasanal help from the odd squad member,i had a humvi at a jumps reach and my m95 ,a few carfully placed clays to keep track of enemy movment a few good timed shots ,and good ears to hear for attack heli"s <--( hence humvi close by a few seconds on the .50 and its history, went 29-2 in those 15 mins and finaly left my post for the onslaut of the tv bulding, got 70+points and a 36kills-9 deaths which aint bad for a sniper on defence.

            DEFENCE RULES !!!!!

Hardest part of all in that tutorial of yours is to get mature squad members...

I was playing a round of Karkand last night, this guy called mwh://LOKPEST was commander, best damn commander ever, I was one guy in my lone squad, engineer defending the whole Karkand "Island" or what to call it, he had already got a Spec Ops to destroy the bridge so they tended to take the mud-path. I mined that mudpath, camped the HJ-8 at Cement Factory and had my vodnik ready to frag infantry swimming over (commander always notified me instantly when someone was close to being considering going over).

One of my best rounds ever, I came out with pretty low score, but it was damn worth it, since we kicked the other teams ass.

                        Re: Defense..

To the OP: I'd recommend trading in one of the support guys for an engineer. Mines are ideal for defense...just leave a path out for any friendly vehicles or be prepared to pick up a mine to let them out. When trying to defend a large area control point like the TV Station on Sharqi or the Refinery on Dragon Valley a squad might consider adding a second Medic.

SF: Map - Surge is one of the most enjoyable maps in the game to play defense. You can just rack the kills up as Eng on that map. The ground is speckled with so much black rocks and such that lil ol' mines don't look like anything out of the ordinary. Also, a tip with Eng. It only takes one mine to kill a vehicle. So use them all over your defended area not all bunched up. If you bunch them up people will notice them easier....place them to look as natural as possible.

It's odd, I've been playing since day 1 but still don't know:

                            A) How do you name your squad?
                            B) When in a mounted MG, or TOW, do THEY show up on enemy planes' HUD?
                            C) As CO, how do you commend your squad?

                            Thanks, ahead.

                              A) In the squad tab instead of just hitting create...instead at the bottom click on custom. I always name mine something interesting to stand out.
                              B) I never fly but I do know that that like vehicles you will see the unit disappear from the map hinting that it is occupied by the enemy. Also, UAV will of course show the enemy unit as well.
                              C) I don't command much but there is an awesome Commander tutorial on these forums. Pretty straight forward actually.

                              Hope some of that helps.
