Idea for EA: Let us submit maps for vetting

Ive seen this idea pop up in several discussions, and was curious what the overall feelings about such a system are.

I am suggesting that EA/Dice create some kind of system by which modders/content creators can post maps for peer reveiw. The maps would be reveiwed and critiqued by the community, then after tweaking and passing some kind of voting/nomination system, would be submitted to EA for the possibillity of being made official.

This would give EA a low-maintence (as its peer reveiw), and nearly limitless source of new content for the game.

So whats the general consensus on such a program?

Well i think even if EA/DICE make it they wouldn't even look at it.

They don't give us new free content anymore.

good idea, they did it for CS to, there was a mapping contest, and the first three maps who won got oficial .

but I don't know if DICE want's to risk it , when adding those maps to the officcial list, they also are responsible for the bugs or glitches it should contain, even after tweaking, things will pop up

The peer reveiw should catch most of that, and we see bugs with the official maps anyways. This would take the design/creation burden off of EA and allow them to focus on bug-squashing and performance enhancement.

Besides, it would give us, the community, a sense of ownership and contribution to the game.

Yeah he has a point there, you do have to accept that dice needs to fix the maps themselves...

It's a good idea, yet, it would never happen.

This would cut into Dice/EA's potential to make cash off of "booster packs". If you can just download "approved" maps, odds are you will not really have a need for their booster packs.

EA/Dice is not going to do Anything they think can lessen their cash flow. Just won't happen.

You hit it right square on the head. You will be getting new maps, the only catch is that you have to cough up $10 and it's called a booster. You will be getting lots of new content, you just have to pay for it.
However, one of the things that I look forward to is all of the great mods that will be released within the next few months. You have US Intervention, Forgotten Hope 2, Desert Conflict, etc, etc, etc.
Those will be free and you bet your ass you will be getting a load of maps and vehicles and everything else. Basically that is ultimately the only thing BF2 will be good for, there are literally 1,000's of highly talented coders, programmers, modelers, etc that can make a mod for a game that is actually better than the game itself. Wait and see.

Re: Idea for EA: Let us submit maps for vetting

EA/DiCE have already told us (and as I've worked a little in the industry I beleive them) that a map produced by the community generates more work to correctly test it and validate it then a map created from nothing by DiCE themselves.

It's all do the the ranking system. No ranks, no need for a map to be 110% tested to make sure that the original programmed didn't add some small cheat/bug.
