    Invisible Terrain Glitch

So some friends wanted me to join them in some Betafield 2, and me being bored, I fired up the n00bfest. Join to the Oilfields to an....interesting surprise. My terrain was invisible! It was there, I could walk on it, shoot it, etc. etc. but I simply could not see it. However, I COULD see things through it. Anyone else experienced this?

Notice in this screenshot, you see a guy near the house, but he can't see me. There's also someone IN the house I can see from below it.

Here we have a nice view of the massive silos, and judging from the foliage (which is the ONLY indicator I had for terrain) I do believe the mountain was supposed to be between me and that CP.

Another nice view through a hillside, straight through to a CP.

An interesting little glitch that looks like it could cause serious problems if possible to recreate.

This happens to me too but it's never as impressive as this. It's usually just a small patch of ground that disappears for a few seconds and then reappears.

Does it happen all the time? What are your hardware specs. I am currently having problem with my SLI and can only run in single card mode...I suspect the problem might be my PSU anywho that is what would happen to me right before my game would freeze or crash to desktop. It would mostly not draw the sky whe it would happen to me.......it would be great if this were just a glitch in BF2 for me...happens in other games to me as well!

Ever since patch 1.12, I've had to toy with my graphical settings just to get it to DISPLAY properly. Before that patch, everything was fine, and it would display. At various settings after 1.12, however, I started getting BLACK areas of terrain. O_o

This is the 2nd time I've received the invisible terrain though. In a map like the oilfields with the open area and random terrain, it doesn't pose more help than pain it causes (driving a DPV was a pain, probably looked like a drunk driver :p ) but on something like Karkand, Mashturr, and Sharqi, I could see this being a SERIOUS problem, especially with people who know play only those maps and know the terrain anyway.

I'll look into recreating it next time I play Rico, and I'll PM you with what I did. If that doesn't work and it remains possible, I'll probably post it here so it either has to be fixed or become an epidemic.

Yep, the game still recognized the collision, I simply could SEE through it. I shot at the ground, got the usual dirt flying off the ground effect. Vehicles behaved as they should (which was a problem not being able to see roads. Just sort of guessed and aimed for the widest spot between trees and grass :-P). It simply allowed me to see people over hills and such, but as I said above, on that map, moving around would be more of a problem than seeing people through hills could balance out. But on other maps, I could see this being a serious problem

This is the 2nd time I've received it, which leads me to believe there could be a way to recreate it. If it's recreateable, it'll be a problem. I have a GeForce FX 5900 Ultra, so I doubt it's close to being similar to your card. :-P I have had progressive troubles out of the game however. With each patch it seems like it runs worse and worse. O_o (the demo seems like it ran the best...)

wow, this could be bad. If you could see through building then you would be able to know EXACTLy were your enemies are, so much for cover. I hope DICE fixes this or it was a one time only thing:hmm:

Can't see THROUGH buildings, but if I got below one, as in the first picture, I could see under it, and tell if someone was hiding inside the door or something. It has occured twice since the 1.2 patch, so I'm thinking it could be recreateable.

Yup, this happened to me once too.
The only thing I could think of that may have caused it is that I had accedently tabbed out to desktop while it was loading the level. Stupid TS.

The UAV is fine for this purpose. Im thinking this bug has been reported already on the main bug list thread. There is a large group of players experiencing this lately since the release of 1.2.

That's what I was thinking, as I have a habit of alt-tabbing out to look at various things, even while loading. Perhaps if you do it at a certain % on the load bar? Still pure speculation right now though...I'll have to test this.

                            wall hack......lol j/k

this is a problem similar to the one ATI users have experienced, the fix for the ATI issue is to install the demo, or reinstall the game pre 1.2, copy all the shader files to a temporary directory, patch the game to 1.2, and paste all those files into your 1.2 shader directory (i forget what directory it is)....im sure u can do a search to find it

Cause for a couple of months, I didn't. I'm waiting on mods. The posts are me discussing my opinion about the game, which around the demo, I was very excited out. Since then, the game as went downhill to me, but I keep hanging around until either a mod makes it playable again, or EA/DICE do something right for a change and stop listening to the countless whining people who simply can't play and ask for nerfs, and actually work on the performance and coding errors that for the most part have existed since the demo, and most which have gotten worse since then.
