Any way to get BF2 to run in Win2k?

A friend installed Windows XP on my system a while back and things were peachy until I started getting random restarts. Tried all the standard tricks, ie virus/malware scans etc. I have a copy of Win2k and that's the only thing I own to install on it. I'm not sure where I can get another copy of XP

I really don't want to shell out more money to M$, especially not with Vista looming on the horizon.

So I installed Win2k, updated everything, installed and patched BF2, and it just plain won't work. It starts up, I see the splash screen (no movies) and then it quits. Kind strange because the demo ran just fine in Win2k. Suggestions?

BF2 has always worked fine in windows 2000 Professional for me. Never had a problem.

Infact i have more problems out of XP and BF2 than i do with Win2k and Bf2

I and several of my friends run Win2k and BF2 just fine, I would suggest that there is something else wrong with your computer and it's not the OS.

right click the game icon & goto properties, capabilitiy, & then tick run this program in xxx mod & scroll down till u see 2000,

That would work for WinXP, but not for Win2k.

well that dont make sense, as the option for win2000 is there, & i think its worth a try.

lol why would there be an option on a win2k platform to run it as a win2k compatible program? you dont see a "run as a windows xp compatible program" on windows xp. it will already run it as a win2k compatible programme purely becuase he is using that platform unless you state otherwise using those options.

So you got XP installed and all was well until recently and you think it is XP that is restarting your game? Did BF2 ever run while you had XP installed?

BF2 runs fine under XP so I don't understand why you would want to change the OS to solve a problem with BF2, unless you never got it running with XP.

I've been running BF2 and Spec-Ops in a Win2K Pro OS since day one. Only issue that you will find is all Newer EA game releases are now requiring you to have Win XP. This also includes the EA Downloader if you want the Euro-forces expansion.

So in the long run if you can get XP to work use it. It will save you issues with newer games in the long run.

Call it a Mirco-soft/EA marketing scheme on useing Win XP or the new Vista OS which is soon coming.

Just to echo the above, I've also been running BF2 on Win2k Pro ever since the game was released. Only problem I had was that I couldn't install the editor when it was released (only installs on XP even though it runs on 2k).

i have bf2 on 2k its works fine, but you cant get euroforce on it
it wont download it unless its xp
