yes - I read all he posts about lost CD key
and also noted many posts are outdated
anway
he bought the game from EA download
and did not save the file after install

it is easy to obtain a copy of the CD and or image file
but he also lost his CD key
he CAN fetch the encrypted key from registry
none of his hardware has changed
can he just "stuff that back into the registry" after an install?
of course, this means he has to 'borrow' a friends cd key DURING install
then modify registry back to his encrypted key before joining a server

now NO FLAMES please - these are all retail copies of the game, and if you read what I am saying - there are no pirated copies here - just tryuing to help a retired veteran not have to spend $30 again

If he bought it through the EA downloader, why doesn't he just redownload it?

I had a similar issue. I had hard drive failure and went to re-install everything, downloaded the downloader, went to sign in and it didn't recognize me as a customer. I contacted EA with numerous E-mail's and finally got a generic response. I had all my info that I purchased the game, and it was also on file with EA. No one could figure out why I was having an issue. Of course I wasn't able to talk to anyone who actually knew anything about anything. Very frustrating. After 3 weeks, I said F it. Went and purchased it again, this time the actual disc. It's unfortunate, but after this problem I will not purchase another thing from them for download.

Should work as long as he is installing to the same Windows account he used originally. The encrypted CD key is tied to the Windows account. EA may be able to get your original CD key back if you give them the encrypted version. Or, they may give it to you again if you go back to EA downloader and download again with the same login used originally. As TheSpearman suggested, you can download as many times as you want as long as you save your login info.
