    BF2 Rules of Engagement. It's 100% official.

For those of you who have been whining that you don't care about BF2RS since you bought the game from EA and BF2RS is only a third party organization. There you go:

Battlefield Ranked Server Rules & Policies

Dice and EA are limiting trusted server software distribution to our network of ‘Trusted Partners’ in order to protect the integrity of the code system. We want everyone to be able to play Ranked Servers if they choose. It is imperative that all of these Rules and Policies be adhered to in order to create a level playing field for everyone.

    Server Configuration
Something to be aware of with Ranked Servers is that they will have a number of settings hard-coded so that users cannot adjust them. These settings were all set as below to keep the competition on Ranked servers balanced across all providers.

    Min Players: 16
sv.password = empty string. Ranked servers may not be password protected. Ranked servers are intended to be available to all players.
    sv.numPlayersNeededToStart = (6 for maxPlayers 16, 10 for 32, 10 for 64)
    sv.spawnTime 15
    sv.manDownTime 15
    sv.ticketRatio 100
    sv.teamRatioPercent 100
    sv.punkBuster 1

Though it is not required, we also request that all servers run Friendly Fire at 100% for all settings, including mines (sv.friendlyFireWithMines).

Ranked servers must be entirely "pure" with no customization outside of the default content shipped by DICE/EA. Ranked servers will not be allowed to run Mods or Custom Maps, as we cannot ensure the balance of these components. Custom maps are never permitted.

BF2CC may be used to access and adjust server settings.

We do permit map sizes to be defined independently of maximum players and minor admin enforced changes in game play behavior. These changes need to be explicitly announced either in the server description or somewhere on the loading screen.

Whenever there is a new patch released Ranked Partners are required to upgrade their servers. Ranked servers are not to run upcoming content early nor out of date content.

    Exploit/Hacker Reports
Please provide screenshots and reports of stat exploiters or players using hacks in servers. There are 3 possible routes for reports.

    1. EA Customer Support: http://support.ea.com/
    2. Battlefield Ranked Servers forum: http://www.bf2rankedservers.com/forums/
    3. Punkbuster: In the event you find a cheat, hack or exploit email what info you have to research@evenbalance.com

    Rules of Engagement [RoE]
Beyond the server configuration settings there are many in-game policies for ranked servers. We refer to these as the Rules of Engagement, and they are managed by EA and Combat Studios on the BF2 Ranked Servers site. Due to the dynamic nature of BF2 this is a living document and subject to revisions. In the same forum there is a location to debate and discuss the RoE. These are rules driven by the community and thus feedback is imperative to keeping the RoE on track and fair.

yeah it's still nice to see blatant disregard for it - like admins requiring that they get first pick at jets or you will be kicked.

then again, i suppose it's tough to police (though easy to enforce).

indeed, these guys have the power to reset stats of players, and they can look into loggings of the stats of every ranked server .

      just don't like this
"Though it is not required, we also request that all servers run Friendly Fire at 100% for all settings, including mines (sv.friendlyFireWithMines).
      "

      it should be REQUIRED

However , on Clan servers like ours , we can make local rules in addition to ROE so long as they do not contravene any of the ROEs.
i.e. One of our local rules is that if you TK for a vehicle or deliberately get TKd because someone got a vehicle then you get banned from our server on the spot . I'm not sure that everyone is aware that just by joining a server you are automatically agreeing to abide by that servers rules ( if they are legal of course) . Our basic rules are displayed in game so there's no excuse or the ability to complain if they are banned for breaking these rules.

There is currently a new discussion thread on the ROE on the BF2RS website as they are continually trying to improve them to make them as fair and clear as possible.

            FF with mines.....F:censored:KING PATHETIC!!!!

This is causing a lot of confusion for people!!!! I love playing as Engineer and placing mines everywhere but its becoming a problem on a ranked servers because its causing way too much confusion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When someone begins to drive up to mines that have been placed on a road, they start shooting at them!

Yeah, mines should not decide who dies and who lives no matter what side they are on but alot of players don't understand what the red crossbones mean. They'll drive over the mines, get killed, and guess what, you've just got yourself multiple TK's. Its great that this no longer happens since a majority of servers are running FF with mines at 0.

To request that ranked servers now run sv.friendlyFireWithMines 1 is just shows you guys how stupid EA is. They can't make up their damn minds so they keep flip-flopping back and fourth. I hope all ranked servers decide to say f' them and leave the setting at 0.

I cant see how the FF suggestion is founded on the basis of fairness to players, rather a preference to 24/7 Karkand players. Given its a problem mainly found on Sharqi and Karkand surely the notion of fairness means removing those maps from the cycle until they can be played in a balanced manor, not removing the effectivness of an anti vehicle kit from an entire server cycle.
As suggestions go it certainly reads as being point whore biased and it would be worrying if those voices were listened to in the formation of future rules or suggestions.

You're forgeting the most annoying kind of TKer... the rampent griefer.

No, I don't believe they are responcible for that... but that raises an interesting point...

Should there be a Code of Conduct (CoC) as well as a Rules of Engadgment (RoE) document?

Would the writing of such a document fall to BF2RS?
                Should another group be formed?
Should it be done at all?

                Interesting questions...

there tends to be some corruption at the admin level, but I've only seen this maybe 3 times.

they need to make the auto-kick features more effective and disallow admin priveleges

see what happens when you try to debate something on their forums, they seem to have the mentality of 5 year olds

Afaic the roe only applies to servers in the bf2rs network of servers, and also afaic they can do what they want on those servers, as I won't be anywhere near any of them while they're seemingly admined by primary school kids.

I was told on one server after a stray aa hit a friendly instead of enemy jet that'd been bombing our main that i'd be banned if i fired at jets while in a dogfight.

The ROE applies to ALL ranked servers not just the BF2RS network of servers, they can't do what they want. ALL ranked servers MUST abide by the ROE! Private ranked servers have some leeway in the rules they can make as long as they don't breach the ROE for example: no attacking uncaps till last flag.

Its a good thing that EA have finally made it aware as to the role of BF2RS and the ROE. So watch out all you guys who think you aren't required to abide by the ROE!
