help me understand wins/losses

When I first started playing, I really didn't care, but since I realized War College Ribbon requires a 3:1 W/L ratio and I have about a 2.2:1 ratio, I'm trying to win more than a lose.

Well, today I joined a game my brother was playing, it put me on the winning team but I switched over in order to play with my brother, and the game was almost over. I was probably on for about 3 minutes when it finally ended. Finished 1 kill, 1 death. And then the next map started, I was messing around sniping until I saw my team was having trouble capturing flags so I started driving around tagging only to have my game freeze and crash and by the time I restarted, the game was full.

Then I checked bf2tracker just out of boredom and I noticed the History for the first time, and it had me with 2 losses today, being those two games I mentioned above. So how are wins and losses figured out? So if I join a game like MEC on Karkand and all of the flags are already taken, I get a loss? What if I'm playing on the winning team and I get switched over or vice versa? Since most games I join that are already in play, I end up on the losing team since people team switch to the winning team, it will lead to a lot of losses. So how is this stuff calculated?

Yea, if you join a game, and are on the MEC side, even if its only one second and they lose, its a loss for you.

You only get a win if you're on the winning team at the end of the map. In any other situation (losing team, leave, crash, kick etc) it's a loss.

If the server itself crashes, then you don't get a win or a loss. And I've heard that if you join a game and you find yourself placed on the losing team (like you only have 10 tickets left) you won't get a loss if you don't spawn. That's what I've heard anyway. But I didn't know that if you were on the winning team when you left that you also got a loss. Is that confirmed or just speculation?

... and THAT, my friends, is why the War College ribbon is a **cking joke. If DICE had programmed the game to make ANY kind of sense, the only rounds that would matter for the 3:1 ratio are those in which you commanded: anything else is devoid of logic.

i totally agree about commander.

hell, im pretty good at the game, but i cant make a diff in a 64 player map if the rest of the team are morons... and if they arent were winning anyway.

Exactly. It's obviously meant to tie in with the commander role, considering the 50 global hours as commander requirement. It would make a lot more sense if it was your W:L as commander, oh wait this is DICE we are dealing with, common sense went out the window a long time ago.

That's pretty stupid... half of my losses are probably from that... I agree with War College ribbon should only count commander games. I'm not even going to bother trying for it... it's impossible... the only way you can get it is if you try to team switch to the winning team at the end of rounds... it's not worth it

I heard someone say that the WCR is DICE's way of knowing you're cheating or doing something illegitimate (like team stacking). Maybe it was a joke, but it makes a lot more sense to me than the notion that the WCR was meant to be an attainable ribbon. lol
