need help platinum x-fi card not working =(

okay, before im blasted for not posting in support. it wont let me post there.

just purchased the sound balster x-fi platinum.

    installation went okay..

    here is the problem

under sound in the options menu in bf2 when i try to select the x-fi platinum i immediatley crash to desktop. tried it a few times.

does anyone have this sound card? and did you experience this at all. i know there is a new driver out already for it but i havnt tried it yet.. im at at work and someone told me it wont fix it anyways

it plays okay with hardware accelertaed and on high with eax enabled. it just wont let me select the x-fi option for some reason?

1 more if i may. i have a 5.1 speaker system and when i do the diagnostic to test the sound in each speaker. the rear speakers l rear and r rear come out of the same speaker. i checked the plugs and they are all in the right spot. if anyone has experienced this please help!.

Sounds like the card/drivers didn't install properly. I have neither of the problems you are listing with my XFi card.

This is a common problem. Make sure you download the latest Creative XFi driver update. Solved it for me.

            Moved to support.

            download these drivers:

You may have to delete your audio.con file under your profile too.

lol wow you'd think the updating drivers fix would be well known to Dice by now as every X-Fi owner has to do it to get it to work

Yeah update your driver, should work, but also you may still have to check and recheck to make sure the option stays selected. My sound option changed to AutoDetect about 5 different times before X-Fi finally stuck, kinda weird. It would also default the quality back down to medium each time too. No problems now though.

The same exact thing happened to me today. Each time I hit apply when I selected X-Fi, it took me to desktop.

However, I got it to work by first hitting Reset to Defaults under Audio. When I did that, I then changed the hardware to X-Fi and Ultra High, and put everything else back where it was(music to 62%) and bam, settings are saved. Not sure if it will work for anyone, but that's how it worked for me.
