never heard of this one
out of no where
got invalid cd key error on working system
that had been playing all morning
and all we did was logout, change user and login
so - did unstalled with DVD, and then edited the registry
placed DVD back in
hit install
get big LOGO
then preparing to install
then bam
setup closes!

normal system
p4 3.2ghz
2.5 ram
2 200 gb sata
x800xl card
audigy 2 value

no system tweaks of any kind

hard to believe no one else has had this problem
but in case someone did
here is how I fixed it
I had a backup IMAGE of my whole C drive
(lucky me - only 3 weeks old)
I copied all my profiles to a safe place
(ie different HD)
reloaded image map
(1st time in I ever tried this -
btw great program Acronis - allows image making/restoring from within windows without dumping to DOS)
now, if game was installed on C drive
I imagine I would have been all set
but I had game installed on separate HD
I thought would be easy to install
but the install option was greyed out on DVD autoplay
(I imagine it saw something in registry - so it assumed it was installed)
hmmm, so I tried to un-install
but the un-installed failed because he game was not really installed - only the registry thought it was
so now, after 12 hours into this
feeling that I was about to reformat everything and make a new system
I reloaded the autoplay for the DVD
and tadah
the install option now appeared :)
guess the failed un-install did enough to clean the registry!

sorry for so long winded
but if anyone has same problems I did - just wanted to share another possible solution
