Mad random triangles all over the screen.

Every now and again (usually on particular maps: Oman and a couple of others) i get spurious polygons rendered all over the screen. Sometimes they seem to be rendered in screen-space coming from the centre of the screen to the outsides and move when i move. Sometimes they are somehow attached to the world geometry. Sometimes they're a mixture of the two.

They occur on particular maps but also at particular parts of the maps and when facing certain directions.

They mostly dont cause any slowdown, appart from when in sniper-scope view.

I have had one instance a particular chunk of polys appearing at one part of a map caused fairly dramatic slowdown.

Sometimes the polys are textured...usually they arent.

Theyre always reproducable (when they occur), so if i stand in the same position i will get the same polys.

At first i thought they were an error in the shadow rendering since they kinda look like they could be the shadow volumes being rendered, but they dont seem to corespond to graphic feature in the game.

They look a bit like visibility errors/leaks in some cases but im not sure if BF2 can cause these types of errors.

Interestingly they are alway perfectly anti-aliased.

    Specs:

    AMD64 3000+
    nVidia 6800LE
    1Gig Ram
    Audigy 2
ExtremeG Drivers (the newest ones i think)

--i dont think these drivers are causing the problem since im pretty sure it happened before (once) with the nvidia ones.

--My hardware isnt overheating...it barely gets warm. If memory serves it runs around 40-50 degrees after hours of playing bf2.

Are you talking about your GPU temps being 40-50 C after hours of BF2...or your CPU temps?

Ah sorry: the temperature indicator in my gpu drivers settings is a bar chart thing. The top is the alarm threshold. The bar is usually a third at most. I think thats around 50 degrees but i cant remember...its nowhere near overheating anyway.

My CPU runs very cold too. I havent noted the actual temp but it has its own exhaust which always puts out luke warm air.

Plus the problem isnt linked to the time playing anyway...

Other than the random polys, i havent had any problems with BF2 really.

Also, the problem sometimes coincides with certain textures in the game totally changing to pretty much random ones. A tank might become bright blue for example (its always blue). The random textures only affect one of the mipmip stages though...so the tank will be blue at a certain distance.
