I think if i were to make a kit i would focus on it being anti vehicle. Capable of dealing with tanks, cars, choppers and planes. I dont think infantry is as much of a problem on a lot of maps. A single tank whore can change the tide of battle and the bombers just plough through your troops like a knife through butter.
I dont think it right to constantly add weapons etc to the game, they never do exactly what you think they should so its important to draw from the existing eliments as much as possible.
The kit i have come up with would fill a vital role in solving the vehicle bias, there is only one thing in game that can effectivly deal with any vehicle after all.
I present The Forrester
Primary weapon; American Redwood (excessive height makes it great for aa duties)
Secondary weapon; Bamboo (this units main infantry defense)
Third weapon; Rocks (Ideal anti tank, apc and vondik weapon)
Special ability; Miracle grow (Grenade style weapon that replenshes already laid trees and turns the enemy green)
Obviously the Forrester wouldnt be able to just lay a Redwood (its not realistic for him to carry one around after all), he would just have sapplings. To increase the rate at which they grow he would have to stay within a certain readius of the plant or he could place them close to water. The tree would take five minutes to grow to its full size and there would be no limit on how many he could place (given the average round time it would only be possible for him to place three or four anyway).
It would totally ruin the gameplay if the Forrester could block off the entire map with Bamboo so he would be limited to just five bushes that could be strategically placed in bottleneck areas, the alley in Karkand for example.
In real life a man cant carry rocks and in the spirit of BF2 being as realistic as possible the Forrester would have the ability to call in an air drop of one large rock. Like the uav there would be a recharge time to prevent rock spamming. Rocks succesfully dropped on infantry would of course be an instant kill.
New kit would need a new awards of course, i was thinking
Basic Forrestry
IAR 5 kills with rocks
Veteran Forrestry
15 hours total kit time
IAR 15 kills with Redwood
Total of 100 troops trapped by Bamboo
Expert Forrestry
100 hours total kit time
IAR 40 kills with any combination of Rock, Redwood or bamboo
250 times Miracle Grow use
New ribbon to be awarded for services to the ecosysystem
IAR play for 32 minutes
IAR deploy four Redwoods
I think this kit would fit into the game brilliantly without effecting balance. The diverse abilitys would make it a must have on every squad.
Shame EA and Dice never listen, the game would be so much better with this kit but they will just ignore us once again
