Jakswan, your not too shabby a pilot, I liked your video-guide.

Just wondering, did they make it so that you could get locked onto by SAM missiles from like halfway across the map, like from Surveillance Post to TV Station on Sharqi and a few other places, because i constantly get locked onto from that far away and i get ****ed off when you get shot down from someone who you can't even see because the fog won't let you.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't me complaining because I can't do well, as I can still fly and do fine (not a minimum of 60 kills per round, though). However for me the piloting experience is nothing more than a shell of what it used to be. Dogfighting in particular used to be the one domain where the truly skilled dominated the competition and rightfully gained air superiority for their team, but now with these shallow ultra-tracking AA missiles that don't care when or how you fire them, being stuck in a less maneueverable plane will override even the largest of skill gaps between pilots. I could literally teach a pilot to how to shoot me down in ten minutes as long as they're flying the J-10.

It is really no surprise to me that the newbie pilots like this patch, because it certainly favors them by making everything in a plane easier, with exception of staying alive, but in that regard nothing has changed for these pilots as they died a lot in 1.12 and they still die plenty in 1.2. Or other elements that had skill removed as a factor completely (dodging AA missiles for example).

Excluding myself I have yet to see a single pilot in one of my games score over 30 kills in a single round (this is in a vehicle that can do nothing *but* kill, and is limited to 2 per team), or exceed a 8:1 K/D, and when I'm doing 40 kills every round on the ground with a PKM that's just plain sad.

In fact if anything I've seen the number of people trying to grab a plane and camping runways for them go UP a considerable amount since the 1.2 patch. I strongly believe that is because airplanes now appeal to the newbies as they now actually stand a chance to kill something in a plane (spamming AA missiles for example), and have a shot at shooting down more experienced pilots (assuming they're in the better plane).
I don't do too bad with the new patch.... but there aren't any more 100+ (kills of course) games...

I just had a 76-0, but no SS.

Oh how were we wrong, the good guys are still there and good for them, the people with high skill levels have adapted and are still kickin a**, the runs and evasive manoeuvers seem to have have changed, but the people that have taken the time are still deadly in jets. imo The patch has worked really well and I don't see a lot of people camping the carrier for a guaranteed 50+ with little or no skill.

I don't fly myself but to all the good pilots out there, hey you're getting some respect from me now anyway.....
It's almost like I am psychic or something. People still bombing the **** out of everything, just with new tactics.

They did mess up the dogfighting though, now it is just who sneaks up on who first.

Ta m8, Not sure about length of AA, if your doing well in a chopper now you must be awesome.

Just had a battle with a good J10 pilot, spent most of the round running away, managed to get 5/1 k/d ratio though. Although a few of my team manned AA which helped a lot. Went down mostly through friendly fire, I was US though so figures :)

I think the J10 is overpowered it's a nightmare, but you just as well have a go, feels great when you get one.

What servers are you playing on? On the SF map with the rocket launch pad (I can't remember the name) one of my teammates hit the Hind with an AA missile and then I hit it with an AT rocket and it just turned and went back to its base to repair and rearm.

It is hard to take down a good pilot/gunner combo. They will quickly identify and take out threats so you need multiple people working together to take them down (if we had had someone on a .50 cal we would have gotten that chopper) - but how often does that happen? Sure you can chase them off, but in the games I'm playing in, chopper pilots still have very high KDRs.

The pilot whines have pretty much subsided for a reason!

Planes pilots have learned to fly high and dive bomb - not staying in range long enough for a AA to get lock.

Helo have learned to stay low and take out the AA sites and .50 cal threats first.

Re: The return of the jet pilot.

If I die more than 2 times in a jet I just go onto the ground, but I have only done that a couple times so far and it ****ed me off. 2 J-10's chased me down... first off it's J-10's... 2nd.. the new missles. Almost impossible to get away from that type of thing. Most of my games (in a jet) are above 80 though. I just love the new AA, but not the A2A!

I just have one question. I have been practicing on the jets and they are pretty cool, but is there a way to view the ground below before you bomb?

The good pilots are still out there still getting a lot of kills, albeit getting shot down a bit more from ground AA and Air-to-Air missiles that now allow unskilled pilots to better them for a moment. I have been shot down a lot more than I used to be, but have still maintained the overall 16:1 k/d ratio I had before the patch; therefore, I must be having several "over 30 kills in a single round" to offset each death to maintain the ratio.

Colony is more accurate in his statement -- The good pilots have had to adjust and be more judicious. Knowing when to pick your fights, and how to pick your fights.

DICE needs to completely revert the airplane A2A missiles if they aren't going to tweak the ground missiles, and tone down the J-10. In fact, they need to do a lot of things, but that should be at the top of the list. That and S2A missiles that require skill to connect.

I finally shot some jets down after the match, before the patch the AA station was a coffin
