Ram Question

Where can I find on my computer how much ram I can install.? Right now i got 1 gig, but I'm wondering if it can hold more. I only have 2 slots for ram however. Anyone know?

The older versions can't hold much more than that.

if you only have two slots, and they are both being used, the only way to get more would be by buying 2 - 1GB sticks. and replacing the current ones.

looks like it will support up to 2 gigs... but with so much new computer stuff rolling in this year, I don't know if it would be worth it to spend money on DDR right now

Thanks a lot I appreciate it, and why do you say not get it. I was thinking of getting at least 1 gig, totaling 1.5 gigs on the comp. Should help with the game. right?

If I were to get anything, I'd go ahead and get 2 gigs 400mhz dual channel. Your board doesn't support it, but chances are, in the next year you can pull those 2 gigs and drop them in a better system. Also, your board doesnt support AGP 8x, which will create some bottlenecking issues. Start with decent ram now, and that's one less thing you'll need to upgrade on your next system--and it will also improve your performance today.

Having said that, it also never hurts to wait. Component prices always--ALWAYS--fall.

REgular DDR is on the chopping block in 6 months, getting 2GB as an investment is a bad idea. Also AGP 8x offers little over 4x, dont worry about which speed your motherboard operates at, any bottlececking will be very small as the AGP bus is rarely if ever limited by 4x bandwidth.

Thanks guys for all the info. If I were to get a new motherboard, and cpu, would I have to re-install everything. For example, windows xp, and stuff like that. I'm not the most knowledgable person as you can tell. OR will i have to just transfer my video, and sound cards to the new motherboard?

You could try without a reformat, but it usually won't work. Best bet is to back up all your data and wipe the drive once you switch everything.
