    questions about sniping

I played Black hawk Down for a long time and was above average in sniping. I haven't played any of the EA series of games except this one and have been playing for about a month. I had little success with the M24, Type 88 and the SVD. I tried a lot of different things but no good. I recently unlocked the Barrett and hoped for more kills, but still having problems. Any help appreciated ! Thanks.

Well, as far as sniper choice, from my experience, the M24 and M95 are about equal. The M95 does have it share of drawbacks, and the ability to shoot through cockpit glass isn't much of an advantage. When you're playing as MEC or China, switch the Type 88 and SVD with the M95. I've heard that the L96A1 is very, very good (I don't have it, so I can't confirm that one), so you might want to unlock that next and give it a try.

This may help a little with the M95:

I'm far from a good sniper, but I've been spending more time with the kit lately, so I'll pass on some noobie basics:

The M96 is less accurate than the M24, but can punch through fences and glass.

As for general sniping issues, you need to make a headshot for one shot kills. There's bullet drop in the game, so if you're shooting at someone long range, aim high. Practice leading your targets and waiting for/predicting when they stop moving.

Go prone and AIM! Sniper rifles SUCK if you try to shoot them from the hip.

Get used to pulling your pistol and firing off very fast shots after you've wounded someone. A solid body hit will always knock your traget down to 2 bars. One shot from a pistol should finish the job nicely and you can do that faster than reloading your rifle.

Be a good teamplayer and use your sights to spot enemies you can't kill. Tanks, choppers, *whatever*. Spot 'em so others can avoid/kill them.

I am not sure about the one shot to the head theory...I enjoy sniping as of late, especially as a squad leader, because I tend to be too agressive and rush in, but as a sniper I must stay back for a while and let the team spawn on me.

The best advice I can give you is learn from others as you played. I learned the spots for snipers when I was killed by them. Pick a location where solders have little or no cover. Lay you claymore on your ladders, and stairs or somewhere behind you for your protection.
Lately I saw some friendly claymores in the alley way in Karkand, which is ok, but it block my way to my snipe area.
The key to being a good sniper is do not stay too long in a spot. Once the enemy is firing at me, I move to another location or after I get several hits.
You may not kill everyone , but you will get alot of assists and if anyone is not full health:dead: .
Take your time as you aiming and do not get frustrated when you miss and do not shot just to shot at a running target....it gives your postion away.
And on the weapon, I always use the M95, which must be unlocked, I like the sound of it, because it seems like it could do more damage:laugh:
Keep your distance. Use buildings, grassy areas and if you have support, jump in a battle and :shoot: to help your team out. If a solder is injured by just running down a hill too fast he's :dead: .
This is just some points from my experience of playing the sniper kit. Enjoy...and be heard and not seen

I havnt played since the new patch, But some tips I could give are

Try to find a out of the way spot but where you have a good view.

Sometimes I have been sniper and been maybe 30 feet away from people and they couldnt see me :p

If you hit someone once and lets say there running and your not very good with running shots pop out your pistol and fire off a couple of shots.

Grass isnt necessairly (I know I spelled it wrong) the best place to hid because of the bug where the enemy sees you and not the grass.

I know there basic but yay

            Re: questions about sniping

I just recently wasted my two new unlocks (that came with patch 1.2) on the M95 and L96A1. (The L96A1 seemed the best choice compared to the only other unlocks available to me: MP7 and P90.)

So for the past few days I have been using the sniper kit a lot (very atypical for me) trying to get my sniper badge. (I need it, the knife, and the pistol badge before I reach 50,000.) What have I learned so far?
            1. Kill Assists: Get used to hating winning the Kill Assist top honor at the end of the round. Yes, none of your teammates will know that all their awesome kills were simply due to the fact that you took the enemy down to two bars, but at least you will know.
            2. Bullet Drop: Yes, with the M95, definitely true. With L96A1? Maybe its muzzle velocity is a lot greater because bullet drop doesn't seem to be a factor when shooting at long ranges.
            3. Pistol Finishes: Good luck with that at 200m.

I will add that just after the patch, I could never understand all the "OMG! The L96A1 Pwns!!!11!" threads considering that statistically the L96A1 is identical to the M24 with the small exception of a very slightly faster reload time. And yes, I know the scope is different, and maybe that's it, but with the M24 I never could hit jack, but with the L96A1 I always hit my target. I don't understand it.

i snipe waaay better in BF2 than i do in CS...CS i cant hit a damn thing.

but in BF2, my tip is to go prone, or at the least just crouch if sometimes you are trying to fire over a small raised ledge. as well as getting low to the ground, i found that if you pause and kind of "settle" your aim, you have a better chance to get a hit. for example, you are prone, zoomed in, and start looking around, see a tarket, aim at it, and shoot imediatly, it doesnt seem to hit. but if i aim at the person and wait maybe 1-2 sec w/o moving the cross hair, i will almost always hit (unless they are too far away and bullet drop kills it)

Go prone, use (preferably) the M24, or if you have it, the L96a1. Find a good vantage point, preferably one thats concealed (bushes, small wood, etc) and has a clear view of an enemy control point. FInnaly, dont foreget to lead your target if they're running (bullet takes time to travel) and if your sniping at long ranges, don't forget to account for bullet drop. ANd dont clamore spam. people hate that.

It's all about the ballistics. BF2 has that factor added into the game so you must account for the bullet drop. There really isn't any good info I can give you other that practice because that's how you get good. Oh and try to get the L96A1!

                    Re: questions about sniping

i can do extremely good with SVD, better than 99 percent of snipers with m24 and hate the m95 and l96, which give me plenty of headshots, but for reasons i cannot understand....

before 1.2 i played a total of about 4 minutes of sniper, except to get the basic badges.

now that everyone is whoring claymores, i say: meh, ill play sniper and see how it is, and the SVD is actually very versatile, even for medium range, while grenades and pistol are quite good close in.

however, ive picked up a few L96s in karkand, and it sure sounds cool as hell, but the thing itself seems to hit randomly, like the M95. but like the M95, it seems to kill a lot when it hits randomly.

                      Re: questions about sniping

                      Yes try the L96A1!

the best advice anyone can give

                      I'll tell you why, no I won't..

yes I will, the accuraccy is very true on this weapon, within 200-300 what-eva you aim at you will hit the dead on; only after prone+ 2+ secs steady..

practice this, then get used to lead on your target for target |<moving>| headshots

this weapon is sweet i.e. no changes needed

M95 still needs sorting / still feels usless 1.2

i'm presuming the bullit drop modifyer needs more work/dropping FTM![****ty]!

the reason being, leading a target to get a kill is very satisfying (especially, sniper headshots), the added bullet drop dimension is a nice thought, but there is no intuative feel after hours of use, and shooting targets that are above you re-writes the rules yet again, wtf??

                      simple is always best, :/

                        Re: questions about sniping

all sniping weapons are about the same... just a matter on how to use them... SDV & type 88 are auto, so just keep shooting till you get your target or you can wait a little for the recoil to lower and shoot again for accuracy. m95 with the new patch is as accurate as the other as the other sniper rifles. the m24 is much more accurate as well as the l96. m24 & l96 are about the same, except the l96 has smaller crosshairs which are easier to aim with, and has a subsonic sound that sounds so sexy. all i can say is snipe for the head, if you miss and get the body pop out the pistol and finish 'em off. dont forget your claymores.. they're more helpful now wit the patch. top sniper rifles :l96>m24>m95>sdv>type 88. bolt action ones are mostly for far away targets, auto ones are useful in close combat... urban,etc... zoom in and you should get almost the same accuracy for all of 'em.

yessir the L96A1 is very good. although i find if i just look into the scope, then quickly shoot, it often misses. just like the M95. however, if you stay zoomed in for a while and take your time it is very good. very quiet too.

my advise is to GET THE L96A1!!! it rules. i was playing on wake islnad and was by the south beach. i looked ACROSS the bay and saw someone at the north beach and lined up. i didnt expect it to hit anything ( i could barely even SEE the guy he was so far away!). I waited a sec then shot. I got him :)
Case in point-- GET THE L96A1 it is great and sounds awsome ( if im waiting for a plane to spawn often il just fire all my ammo just to hear the sound :)

In certain situations put your crosshairs next to the enemy ,let the enemy run into the crosshairs, then shoot. Also, get a shot to the body, then use your pistol to finish people off,it is more accurate then you probably think.
