Sound card question

I currently have an audigy 2, and i'm wondering will purchasing the x-fi make it that much better??

It will make a difference if you have the corresponding equipement to handle it. If you have a surround sound setup or surround sound headphones, you should see a HUGE difference from what I'm told. Otherwise, you would only see a slight increase in the sound quality (probably negligible).

I only run my sound on a pair of gaming headphones (decent quality), as I don't want to wake anyone up when I'm on. So for me, purchasing a sound card like that isn't an option, as I couldn't do anything with the quality increase.

I went from an Audigy 1 to an X-Fi Xtreme Music and I am LOVING the difference both with my 5.1 speakers and ESPECIALLY with my 5.1 headphones!

Can I ask you guys what headphones you're using? I got the zalman 5.0's (they say 5.1 on the box, but the subwoofer channel is non-functional by design). I thought that I liked them, but I'm really missing something without the meaty "blat-blat-blat" of the subwoofer coming from a firing APC that I hear on my regular 4.1 (don't laugh) setup. Then again, maybe I'm saving my ears???

lol I hope subwoofer sounds don't hurt your ears. PLus, I think the low subwoofer frequecies are more to make the room rumble than to produce sound, so hopefully loud subwoofer sounds don't have the same effect as loud normal speaker sounds :)

I use the LTB 5.1 Platinum headphones...and the subwoofter is AWESOME...mixed together with the precise fine tuning available to the X-Fi = a great aural experience.

They claim to use SafeBass safe resonance technology..but I have yet to figure out what that means. I think it means that the subwoofer is simply too weak to damage your ears
