All of a sudden: CTD

I got a new 17" monitor and up until now BF2 has been fine. Now after the splash screen I get a CTD and no error, BF2 process instantly killed itself.

Any ideas of whats going on? Nothing else has changed.

Old monitor 15" 1024x768
New monitor 17" 1280x1024

EDIT:

I set the command line to windowed and got this error message:

My new monitor doesn't support 85Hz so how can I change that to see if that fixes it

Try deleting your cache and your video.con file.

and now I CTD as soon as I join a server
BAM!
no matter what account I use
system worked fine last night
now - BAM - CTD????

Have you tried doing with the OP did and that was to set the game to windowed mode through the command line?

It may give you info in the way of an error message.

I will try that
I did get it to work in single player mode
and in server browser
I CAN see the game in a server
(ie player name and scores)
but as soon as I hit join

got NO message box on crash
rebooted 2x
no heat issues
will try hard off and wait a few
