Booooo to people who told him to go play Karkand. He asked how to play a kit not a map. Hit the bricks Karkand Crack Heads.

And engie to my surprise is very effective post patch. Mines at choke points but not where tthey would expect them. Put them in grass or by clumps of rocks.

People often complain of the long range shortcommings of the engineer. I believe there is a reason the engie was given a close quartes combat shotty and the ability to heal vehicles. Use your vehicle to fight long range or to close the gap to bring the shotty to bear. Like a previous poster said the USMC pump action is death incarnate close up. One shot one kill. Click click boom.

An engie in a jeep is a mobile repair station. Accompany armor and heal them. Or use the jeep to take your right to the flag and shoot'm in the face with the shotty.

This works on all maps not jus KARKAND!

As the other have said it's all down to mines, though people are getting a little smarter when it comes to driving around.

On the 64-player oilfields map I can usually expect 50-60 points as engineer from doing nothing but mining choke points and enterances to flags. Blowing something up beside a flag also gives you a flag defend score.

Since the 1.2 patch it's impossible to throw mines as before (any tank movement will set off a mine) but if you're feeling lucky it's possible to jump onto a tank from behind and drop a mine on it.

If you have a flag protected by mines and are killed yet manage to respawn back at the same spot, try to pick up your old kit as this saves you having to remine the same areas all over again.

I've been using the Eng kit on a fairly regular basis. I use it as my primary kit on maps that have alot of armour as long as that is what I intend to utilize.
If I happen to secure a base an then jump in a piece of armour while using a different kit, and later get killed, I'll spawn back as an Eng to that base if it's still under my teams control. If I happen to get in a tank as the human turrent target, I also prefer to be an Eng. The optimum combo in a tank is to A] both guys be in the same squad B] one of you..preferably the driver be the squad leader C] Use the in game voip together. If you get shot off the top gun you simply respawn back into the hot seat, if the driver is your squad leader.
As stated by others in this thread...the ability to repair your own vehicle is very important. It goes twice as fast if your both using the Eng kit.
As long as your both able to comunicate, I'll jump out of the top gun in the midst of a battle and make repairs. Stay on the side opposite the enemy or crawl under the vehicle. Talk to the driver so he dosn't run your *** over. This tactic can lead to an easy win in that battle.
other tactics I use are
While driving from point A to B..take the time to set out your mines. Think of your field of view as you drive as well as the most likely direction of travel that the other team will be using. Hills have a blind spot just after the crest. The bottom of bridge ramps are good hidding spots for mines. Curves in the road... dark areas in the road are all good areas for laying out mines.
Unless I'm using mines to defend a flag; I prefer to not double them up. As far as I'm concerned it's a waste if you place them side by side across a road. They hit one..they all detonate. I pretty much put them in the middle of the road on hill crests and curves..or between choke points. I find most ppl dont hug the side of the road as they drive. The key is to try and keep them out of there field of view. It's quite gratifing to be driving along an see..killed so n so pop up
One point that I'd like to vent is..If you jump into the top gun and get cold feet in a battle..use the Ctrl button to duck down. Don't bail out of the tank. The odds are really high that you'll get run over by the tank your diving out of. And of course..you'll feel like thats a justified reason to punish
