    How to play the Engineer

    Heya,

I have been playing the game for quite a while now; and my rank is the one after Gunnery Sergeant.
I have played all the kits although the one I have never really ever used is the Engineer. When playing the Engineer I find it very difficult in understanding what my role is; I can repair vechs and lay mines but apart from that combat is difficult.

How do you aquire large points playing as a Engineer? Im jsut curious as I would like to the play the class more. At the moment I only use Engi when im commander or when im guarenteed a tank/apc.

24/7 KArkan map, use teh shotty (Unlock Jackhammer or regular) and start blasting peeps, got over 100 points from just using a shotty, its very deadly in teh map. And yeh just repair vehicels and Commander Buildings, lay out mines at key locations so you can stop the enemy or blow them up while they are going there.

oh come on, 24/7 Karkand is basicly stat padding...

Use the fact that you can repair vehicles to your advantage, if you are thinking about getting a vehicle, ALWAYS be engineer, in that way, you can repair friendly vehicles and commander toys, aswell as being able to back out of combat and fix your own.

Nothing makes me more angry than when someon else than engineer repeatadly, death after death goes to get a tank, it's pointless.

3 tanks with 3 engineers = unstoppable combo, only thing that can kill them are mines, hellfires and guided missiles.

The only time your going to get big points as a engy is either tank/apc whoring with a fellow engy or using the cannon they get in close quarter combat such as a 64 karkand and going nuts at the enemy.

To get points with the mines you do have to use your noggin and place mines at choke points particularly at bases that have a high number of jeeps, the reason being you will normally only get 1 person in a apc cause if your not at the gun whats the point(not my opinion but seems to be the case), but you always seem to get 3 up on a jeep which tends to be easy pickings.

Works for me but experiment with the kit and see if you can find any better ways.

Never, I repeat, NEVER take a tank or an APC unless you are an engineer. I cannot tell you how many times a friggin sniper has taken the tanks!! USELESS!!

Otherwise just learn to play defensively. You've got devestating firepower at close range, but your pistol is your only weapon for long range. Keep that in mind and use cover to approach the enemy. Running right up the road against support, assault, medics, and snipers with a shotgun is the stupidest thing you can do. Save the points from the other team and just suicide repeatedly.

It all comes down to knowing your kits advantages and drawbacks.

The default USMC shotgun serves quite well for spawn caming in the halls though. Post 1.2, its a much better choice over GL'ing the halls...

              Step 1: Spawn Engineer
              Step 2: Find Vehicle
              Step 3: Profit!

As others have said, the Jackhammer on karkand fighting in to the first spawn. other than that, try to get a vehicle. My choice of kit goes like this: if Im going to get in a chopper then ill be an engy, in a plane then ill be a medic (helpful when you get a little too far out of bounds), armor ill be an engy. as others have stated get a friend in another piece of armor to roll with you as engy and you are pretty hard to take out.

sorry, thought i had already written c4..as for artillery, not really, since a good tank group wouldn't stay still in the same place for too long.

Arty won't do squat unless the engis are outside of the tanks. If a spec ops manages to C4 one of the tanks it means the other ones weren't doing their jobs of watching each others' backs.

Re: How to play the Engineer

I got a 44 / 0 on wake one time using an Engineer in a tank. I used the same tank from the airfield the entire round.

Take a hit, stop-repair, and roll on.

You do have to watch for those little blue dots that see an unoccupied tank and sprint to it though. Kinda like that "mine" video :)

I have an Engineering question I hope someone can help with. How long does it take to arm a mine?? Seems like pre-patch is was almost instantaneous. Now I'll be stuck next to an enemy tank and drop mines everywhere, I get killed and watch the tank roll over my mines without blowing up.

Yea, I see this happening a lot now post 1.2. Drop a mine in front of a tank and nothing happens. Drop it on a bridge and wait, and wait, and wait, and the bridge gets artyed or C4ed and your mines are wasted.

it is good to be engineer in a helicopter if you can can stay close to another helicopter or land somewhere out of sight to repair when your repair point is a distance away.
Several times I've been damaged and I was flying back to the carrier and someone blew me up right before I got there
