Only the default (TGN Light) theme for now. Dark them is also coming back soon. Then CSN. Then Wrestlin' Nation. A lot of WIP stuff right now. There are a couple of things still not working either. Sorry.
A number of people on the board recently have been PMing me linking me to their thread. Please don't do this. I read these forums often (multiple times per day, I see alot of load screens in my work ), I will read your post.
Actually, Demize99, would you mind providing us with a comprehensive overview of how DICE/EA interact with the BF2 community? What are the primary methods for gathering feedback and suggestions?
I know there are employees such as yourself who visit the forums and interact with the community; there are some who take the time to answer the community's questions (Armando, for example) but I've never fully understood the company's strategy for dialogue and interaction with the BF2 community.
A lot of people complain of feeling cut off from the developers and thus incapable of having their ideas and comments heard / acted upon.
Does DICE have a specific approach or rules for community interaction? Or any plans to improve the closeness of the relationship between the developers and the community?
I've always understood that all community interaction was run by EA and not DiCE. It isn't their job and I doubt they have the manpower for it. It's the publishers role to provide info and feedback.
Would be be getting interviews from Armando if EA had been providing BF2 players with the info demanded all along?
I just wish there were a few people in direct contact with the developers / decision-makers who basically LIVED in forums like these. We need someone who has his/her finger on the pulse of the community and whose sole job is to provide a direct link between the community and those who decide how the franchise will be managed and improved upon.
Community members are always complaining, "They don't give a crap; they just want your money," but surely the best way to continue getting our money and support is to have fantastic interaction with the community and foster an environment in which there's immediate and constructive dialogue.
Given the amount of anger and frustration being levelled toward EA, surely they realise there's considerable room for improvement in how they handle their public relations.
(Hell, give me a weekly paycheque and I'll do it myself!)
Improving our relationship with you guys is a big goal right now with DICE and EA. There's a lot of things in the works internally to help make the relationship better. The community's perception is that we don't listen, and I think thats a wrong preception, but I understand why you feel that way. The community dialogue rarely as appeared to be a two way street. You'll notice there have been more frequent community updates recently, thats part of the plan. You might also notice they have been done by someone at DICE not someone at EA...

The only people that feel that way are the ones that don't like the changes brought in my patches IMHO (not talking about bugs).
Last December I listed my top 3 things to be changed with the 1.2 patch on the EA UK forums. It turned out that my top 3 were in the top 5 things asked for by the community to be modified. So I'm happy, and more and more are too. EA/DiCE listened to the community and acted; but as ever a certain % weren't happy with the changes and complained.
Probably the only thing which has existed since day 1 that you could fix which would result in no complaints would be the red/blue bug.

I'm so glad to hear that, Demize99, because I really want what's best for DICE. I've derived an obscene amount of fun from playing the Battlefield games over the past few years and it makes me cringe to see the relationship between the creators/publishers and the community falter. I'd like to see it improved to a point where people not only love the game but appreciate the people behind it to such an extent that they're a lot more forgiving and understanding when things don't go right.
Too often, the standard reaction to bugs and gameplay problems has been to abuse DICE and EA but I think if the interaction with the community becomes extremely good, people will be more inclined to react to problems with calm and a lot more confidence that the issues will eventually be resolved.
Demize... I'd point to Bioware as a company that has good relations with their community down.
Not only does it improve maketing, but they are able to draw on talent within the community to push their games forward.
Something they've been able to do is to put out beta versions of patches to the general public for people to try out if they choose. Most people don't, since they know there's going to be bugs. Lots do, tho, and they find not only bugs to report, but often give very valuable feedback on how to solve them.
Mostly what they do, tho, is to socialize with the fans through their own forums. Mods are nazis, but it's their forums. Everything is welcome other than obvious trolling and childish ranting.
