Re: 2nd thoughts about post-1.2 AA

Well the oil flame AA shooter works also, though it can easily go after a friendly same as an enemy. I have downed friendlies doing it but no enemies so far. Its more luck that an enemy comes in range within 30secs before a friendly does.

I can vouch for everything in that vid other than seeing the AA spiral from personal experience.

Re: 2nd thoughts about post-1.2 AA

I've seen some really crazy junk from the 1.2 AA. Once, I was on the Essex, and the target I shot at was destroyed before my missile hit, so it started doing funky loops for about 3 spins, and then streaked over and hit our Blackhawk.

Last night, I was following a J10 on Daqing, I repeat following it, in the F15, and it killed me with a missile. Yes, I looked up and saw the 'J10' as the killer. He was in front of me at the time.

I've seen the missiles go straight through flares all the time. Helis and planes.

I think the worst thing in the game now (as a pilot) is the fact that there isn't any way for the attacked pilot to use skill to get rid of AA. Flares don't work "most of the time", no turning or manouvre works, it's simply first sight, first kill. If we could drop 1 or 2 flares at a time (and they worked if distance was correct), or something like that, I'd take it. But now, it's just luck on who sees who first or is in back of the other person. Pure luck.

Re: 2nd thoughts about post-1.2 AA

I've found that in a post-1.2 helo groundfire, especially from the jeeps and Humvees, is my largest threat. On several occasions I won't even know where I'm taking fire from before the lucky little s.o.b. takes me out with a rear mounted machinegun.

AA against jets doesn't feel that changed to me. If the opportunity arises for the ground AA to lock on it means I wasn't flying very well and I deserve to be shot down. Gulf of Oman seems to be the worst when it comes to being shot down, and Wake Island '07 is the map that I am rarely shot down on. Poor AA placement maybe?

As an earlier post said, the boosted AA and small arms fire just separates the poor pilots and the good pilots.

Re: 2nd thoughts about post-1.2 AA

To get the spiral aa just fire through a tree. I have seen more and more instances of the aa actually "hitting" the target. Instead of detonating they just fly in a straight line off to another target. Just like the video posted earlier shows with the oil wells. The problem with the aa is that they can change thier course too much too quickly. This probably was done to allow the missiles to hit a turning target. When you flying and an aa missile is shot at you switch the view so you can see behind your plane. Then do a tight turn and watch the missile. Most of the times I have done this the missile is not oriented properly. The front of the missile is usually 45-90 degrees (pointing away from my aircraft). It just looks silly. The aa will never be fixed "properly" because of the fact the missiles are tailchasers. That along with the missiles do not discriminate between friend or foe and the devs wanted flares in the game make it even more unlikely.

Thier current track record with patches has influenced my opinion on wether the aa can be fixed or not. HOW IN THE F**K DO YOU BREAK THE SCREENSHOT FUNCTION!?

Offtopic: I wonder if the person who decided it would be a good idea to make claymores not go off on teammates is the same person who decided that mines should be blown up by explosives. Or the same person who decided that apc's can't shoot through materials like a FENCE. I liked this game until the 1.2 patch. Before the patch claymores were used as intended. Now they are everywhere. Perhaps the same person decided the PKM should be a sniper rifle. I agree that the accuracy should be good but not that good. Dice seems to fix things that should be backburner issues first. Some are not even issues at all. (claymores, destroyable mines, apc shooting through materials, hellicopter missile count) I haven't been around pc gaming too long but of the games I have played never have I seen a patch distort gameplay as much as 1.2. Its an entirely new game. Wether its a good thing or a bad thing is in the eye of the beholder. Sorry had to vent.

              Whoa.

Nice vid so far. Some of the captions didn't make a lot of sence in relation to the video, but it was way more interesting to watch than anything I've seen by PlaneWhore.

I hope Battle Recorder functionality is restored soon. I'd like to see ya working from live game BR files!

Yeah vid editing is not my strong point, I tend get bored half way through. As well as that 30second fraps is awful cos I have to press F9 when I think there is going to be some action.

Still it shows you can break lock but you have to do it quick. Seem to spend entire rounds dogfighting now, very rare to have chance to hit ground. All round patch much improved game, nothing to change my mind over the last few weeks.

Still think choppers have a raw deal.

Only thing I like about the AA now is what someone already posted... You very often now can find a jet or heli to hop in. When before it was a lot harder. AA was tweaked for the above avg players/pros

So the avg players with mouse or whatver hop in a tank/apc instead beacuse it a lot easier to live and make kills I would guess

Also like that I can spend a whole round just sitting in AA and get top scores but it does get kind of boring :P Just have to swicth spots once spotted and cant only have one base. you can hit anyone.. Edit lol that vid shows it.. just wacthed it. hit 80%

Just an additional note to your vid, Jak...

Don't be afraid to show yourself getting shot down. People learn from mistakes as well as good examples.
