    LAG problem, help!!

really starting to get annoyed. i usually run bf2 on medium and some high settings. but now i cant even run it on low. for some reason all of a sudden i have this major lag problem and i have no idea how to go about fixing it.

if its to any importance ill post my specs
    P4 2.80ghz
    512mb ram
256mb fx 5500 pci (**** i know but it works)
    80gb hard drive
    windows xp sp2

pretty average computer. but like i said i had no problem running it on medium and some high up until yesterday when everything went to ****.

If it only happened on one day, its possible that your ISP was having trouble. Or perhaps it just happenes on one server? Its always a good idea to defrag the drive and clean out all temp files to ensure OS rot hasen't started to set in.

You might also check the Event Viewer to see if any errors are reported with the Applications or with the System.

I had to uninstall and reinstall the game because of similar issues after the patch. Now all is well again.

                    Navigate

                    Start/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer

There you will see three sections; Applications - Security - System. It is the Applications and System errors and warnings you will be concerned with.

I just recently looked, and whats DCOM, I have a hell of a lot of errors with that.

Oh and your 5500 with 512 RAM get you that high settings? I'm just installing one into my 1.8 768 RAM computer till I get my other one, which is delayed. It really works that well?

                            Re: LAG problem, help!!

my computer is similar to yours mate --

                            2.4 GHz
                            120 GB
                            512 MB
                            ATI Radeon 9500 256mb

The thing that may help is hitting ctrl+alt+del > processes > click 'username' > highlight processes running under owner and End Process (BeSureNotToEndProcessesSuchAs Internet Explorer or anything else that your recognize as an important process)

***Note*** Do Not End Anything That Is Labeled SYSTEM or LOCAL SERVICE.

These background programs can slow down your computer, especially when you have the minimum requirement of 512 mb ram (which i am also running on) because it can cause severe laging. I know from my experience, Low ram can cause a lot of loading problems and lag. It takes me a great deal of time to load servers, which is why i stick to servers that have low ping and a lot of rounds.

Also, if you feel as though the lag is becoming too severe and is effecting your gameplay significantly, I suggest that you pick up some more RAM. I havent done this ever, but I asked how much 512 would cost the person said around $50. But for now, its probably best to try eliminating some TEMP files and background processes before you go out and waste some money and find out that the problem still occurs. Hope this helps!

***Also--It also sounds like it may be your video card. You should also try to upgrade to a higher graphics card if you find out that the problem still occurs...get one for about 90 bucks. mine cost around that and it runs fine on medium.

Yeah I've just bought the 5500 256, but my PSU is only 200 watts, so I'm buying this 350 watt one for 15 bucks. Does the 5500 really run you medium settings? I have 768mb's of RAM so that might help, but all medium? I've heard of 800x600 and all low.
