While all passwords are encrypted and salted, it's recommended that you change your password here when you can.

Try getting another gig of ram, make sure all internet security is disabled? have you updated the pbsetup/punkbuster, did you change the punkbuster refresh time in the bf2 ingame console?
Also, windows will fetch downloads from the Mother Ship occasionally. (Usually the second Tuesday of the month, but also if you have autoupdate turned on it will fetch updates by itself.)
If windows is fetching Office/MediaPlayer/IE/OE etc. patch data, then it can make your system chug. You should turn autoupdate off, unless you absolutely can't remember to go to the windows update website once or twice a month.
Don't know if it's been mentioned, but also run an anti-spyware scan just to be on the safe side.
