Wont start?

Hello I am a long time BF2 player but first time poster and I hope this post is in the right place.

I have a Chaintech NVF4 ultra motherboard and an AMD 64athelon3000+ Cpu. a few nights ago i was doing some work on my PC then played some BF2 for an hour or two. the next morning i went to turn my PC on and it wont do squat. It simply will not boot up, CDtrays dont open, and even the little power buttons dont do work to turn it off. I have not a single clue as to what happened to it to cause this. can anyone please help me out with this ?

p.s. im using a seperate computer to post this.

Check the cables on the outside and make sure nothing got pulled out. Also there is usually a little power switch on the back of your computer with a circle and a line printed on it. Make sure the line side is pushed in.
If all that seems in order and it still won't boot up, post back here.

yeah everything is in order and the when i push the powerbutton to begin its start routine, the fans go, and the harddrive spins up but nothing boots up

basically it sits there sucking electricity.

also its not the powersupply because i tested it with the voltometer and even toss in my old one to make sure and nothing changed.


the computer is about 3 months old running fine till this too if that means anything.

Could have fried the CPU or motherboard...

Check ALL of your components (even though you haven't physically changed anything) and make sure all of the cards, CPU, RAM and cables are all seated properly.

Enter your BIOS (usually Delete key) and navigate to your IDE/HDD section. Make sure that the Boot Sequence has not changed and that all the drives are listed in the order you want them in.

If you have an option to boot from a network, disable it if possible. Sometimes a BIOS will just reset it's self and you need to reconfigure so that it can find the Master Boot Record (MBR) which must be located on the first sector of the first partition of the first drive - which is usuall Drive0.

and yeah my computer wont even start up anything, nothing appears on the moniter upon powerup. as i said before, its basically sucking out electricity

True that. While in the BIOS, he would need to ensure that his video is properly selected in the PCI/AGP configuration. Also, if the CPU or memory settings are incorrect one could expect the system to power on but not post.

This is what I would do..personally.

Take ALL of the pieces out...CPU, RAM, PSU, HARD DRIVERS all cards...EVERYTHING.

Then, examine the empty motherboard and make sure that all of the risers are properly in place, and that the motherboard isn't bowed or that none of the metal parts beneath the motherboard are coming into contact with the case.

Then..place ONLY the PSU into the case and attach power to the motherboard.

(Plug your monitor in to the on-board video if you have one)

Power on and listen for error beeps. Get out your manual and read up on your beep codes.

If you do NOT get any beeps...you may have a bad mobo or a bad PSU. But continue on and install your CPU and attempt to boot. Listen for beep codes.

Then install RAM and attempt to boot. Listen for beep codes.

Then install your video card and plug the monitor in to that. Boot up and if it doesn't POST, then you SHOULD know which piece of hardware is faulty if you use logic.

i disconnected the mobo, everything seemed fine to me, then i plugged in the PSU and tried to turn it on again. no beeps :[

But you still had all of that other stuff plugged in if you were opening up trays etc...if you're trying to troubleshoot, you need to have the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM plugged in.

Just motherboard and PSU...NOTHING ELSE...then turn it on and listen.

If your motherboard is supposed to have an error code for NO CPU INSTALLED and you don't hear it? Either your mobo or your PSU is bad.

yeah i tried it again with ONLY the mobo and the PSU. nothing happened. the underside of the board has little ribber nubs to keep it from touching the metal case. board does not look bent or cracked anywhere. i retried again this time inserting two different AMD's 3000 and a 3200 on the same mother board and nothing changed no beeps for either CPU and no beep for a lack of a CPU and all other components except PSU. still sounds like a board problem ?

And since you have tried another PSU, then maybe it is your board

You may have to take it in to your local repair shop and have that confirmed...or simply try another mobo (one with a return policy in case your mobo wasn't the problem ).

yes its the mother board...i tried my buddies whos system is nearly the same, and his did all the beeps during the same process you all walked me through. I Thank you all very much for your help.

does anyone have any ideas as to what would cause a mother board to do this?
