    Hyperthreading

    Hello...

I was wondering if there is any way of disabling hyperthreading other than the bios as it works great with some games...Battlefield 2, Half-Life 2 and crap with others coursing crashes like in.. Rainbow Six Lockdown.

    Thanks...

If hyperthreading is indeed causing the problem then it is really a mistake in programming the game rather than being a mistake made by Intel. Knowing this, however, doesn't fix your problem. This isn't the greatest fix but instead of having to decide whether to have HT on or off in the BIOS, you can tell each individual program whether to use the logical (hyperthreading) cpu. Try this:

Load the program, then open your Task Manager, find it on the Processes tab. Right-click the program, go down to Set Affinity. You should see CPU 0 and CPU 1. Just uncheck the box for CPU 1 and you will disable hyperthreading for that program.

CPU 0 represents the "real" processor and CPU 1 represents the logical "hyperthreading" CPU.

          Hope this helps...

Thanks that is something i could use until they sort out the problem, if they ever do that is...

            Thanks again.

If it works out please let me know. I own a small computer manufacturing company and I always like to keep these things in mind when a customer needs help with such a thing...

                Hello again..

Just played the second lvl on Rainbow Six Lockdown and had no problems...and if anything it seemed to run a little better.

                Thanks again for your input.

My laptop has a P4 3.0ghz with HT, and I usually dont game on it, but I didnt know about the affinity thing until well, I read your post. If my affinity is set on programs for both CPUs to run it, is that bad or good?

You can also do above without having to do it manually each time. Use process.exe and a batch file that starts your game, and create a shortcut to this batch file.

                      Explained in here:
Akses VIRUS88 sebagai agen Slot88 resmi dan terpercaya 2026 dengan game gacor terbaru, proses praktis, promo harian menarik, serta layanan online 24 jam.

This does't change the game's .exe file like if you used other util like imagecfg.exe that changes the .exe file permanently, which isn't a good idea.

                          Bit of a tossup...could be in hardware...whatever.

Hyperthreading is not a bad idea until it becomes an issue. 99.99% of the time it is NOT a problem unless a known issue comes up which they do from time to time. In my personal opinion Hyperthreading is the cause of few problems and is not the first place to look. My conclusion is that there is no reason to turn off HT (in BIOS or by setting Affinity) unless you have specifically identified (and verified) it as the cause.
