Losing FPS over time?

Here is the problem:
Log on, first game, FPS (using the BF2 FPS counter) around 90 to 100.

second game, FPS around 80-90

keeps droping until I get to 30 to 40 FPS and then get "connection lost".

I restart computer, first game right back at 90 to 100 FPS.

WHAT THE HELL!!!

I thought it may be an overheating problem so I set up a fan right next to the computer blowing lots of air through the vents and it made no difference.

I can't play for more than an hour with out shutting off the machine and restarting. Any help would be appreciated!

Machine Setup:
AMD 4400X2
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
2 gig Corsair XMS (Twin)
eVGA 7800GTX 256mb (81.98 v driver)
Antec TruePower 2.0 550W power
Windows XP sp2
Battlefield 2 v1.2

P.S. someone told me (after I bought it... THANKS!) that eVGA cards aren't very good. Anyone agree with that? He seemed to think that my eVGA is overheating and causing all the trouble...

evga makes good cards, dont listen to him. sounds like it COULD be a heat problem, any OCing uve done or something of the sort?

it could very well be a memory leak, but I honestly don't know what that means or the symptoms of it :)
I don't think you should rule out overheating yet. Check your temps while playing with everest home. Putting a huge fan blowing straight into your computer may not do much as it's just blowing the hot air your cpu fan is trying to get rid of right back onto the cpu.
And eVGA cards are very good :)

Have posted about this myself and thought of the memory leak problem from a prior patch.

Same symptoms here.

OK for a round, new map or respawn and drop in performance.
Sometomes keeps going to the point of almost slide show frame rates and my comp is far from a slouch.

EA YET AGAIN NEVER GET THERE CRAP RIGHT WITH THERE PATCHS LOL

But EA has not supported in there list here http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg...i=&p_topview=1 that they dont support 7 SERIES AT ALL thats why there makeing a Hotfix when eour force comes out but yet i had a evaga and i got a msi and i get better fps and i dont get drops like you do maybe 10 since the patch came out but dont brother me and this on a 64 man it only drops 10 form like 80-100 set to max graphics . so im set but maybe when the patch comes out this may fix that issue you have . evga is a good company but cards sometime get overheat and stuff .

try contacting evga may tell you why to good luck

Ok... I downloaded everest home... Says GPU temp at around 39 deg c. I don't think that is too hot... Is it?

What is memory leak? Any way to stop it? What can I do to stop this problem?

I'm pulling out my hair on this one. Was playing comander tonight (which I don't do very often) lost connection RIGHT at the end. Didn't get any of the points from that game. Almost broke my little heart...

Run a Defrag to see if it helps.

Memory leaks are often thought of as failures to release unused memory by a computer program. It is just unneccesary memory consumption, as it becomes unable to use all its available memory.

Defraged last night, ran a virus check and double checked to see that all my drivers are up to date. Still having the problem. Is there a number to call Dice or anything like that? When the game runs, it runs great, but having to restart the machine every hour or so is getting very annoying...

Heres what i can tell i dont know i had to take my evga carded back to best buy when i bought my Geforce5500 1 year ago and it whould just freeze up and stuff and not work right i sent the carded to evga and they said that it was there fault there carded had a a maufter problem and where willin to give me a new one i said no got my money back and got me a new video carded a 6600gt and that was form msi there a lot of brands out there and you can just see if you can get a new one of them call them and there a number for EA if thats what you mean www.eagames.com


oo yea and make sure the extra power cord is connect to the video carded that can be the problem :laugh:

Something might be in the background every one hour. Did you have a screensaver or something come on after an hour, though it shouldn't happen check. Also, do you have your virus scan on during bf2 ? Might scan an hour later...
