I'm not going to argue that the 16mb cache 7200 drives are FASTER. Just a great alternative for people who want more than 74 or 150 gb......Raptor drives are ****ing EXPENSIVE.

You canget a 250GB 16mb cache 7200RPM SATA drive on newegg for around 100$. 150gb raptor is what....3 times that? I bet its close.

There have been a couple cases where 16mb cache 7200 drives have flat out beat a raptor, but it isnt neccessarily repeated consistently.

the raptor is faster, but some people want the ability to have good storage amounts with their drives, for LESS money.

Alright already, each to your own corners! LOL Seriously, if your mobo supports it, get a NCQ capabale SATA drive(not all support this feature!) and utilize this technology to get the best performance gains applicable for gaming. Read this article,

Ok fellas, So I should go with a sata II drive at 7200rpm and fairly large storage and ncq technology on it for a good budget meets performance setup? Then later on down the road I can buy another identical harddrive and hook up raid 0. One question nobody REALLY answered is can i Keep my ide hardrives installed only for accessing my large media files and videos? I could keep several burnt movies and my music on the ide's and have op system and games on my sataII?

Yes you can! I have a WD raptor as the main drive, and then I have a larger drive to keep all the big stuff on.

Cheapest thing for you to do to increase performance is to get a 36gb raptor. Just getting a SATA drive, is not going to get you more performance. Its rotational speed that is really going to help. 7200rpm IDE and 7200rpm SATA is the SAME!! Just because the interface maximum throughput is higher doesnt mean squat.
