    Port Forwarding Tutorial for BF2 (56K Picture-Heavy)

So your tired of getting "Connection Error" messages in the middle of a battle?
Or are you tired of losing your connection to the server even when you ping is only 25?

This is your key to playing smoothly over a router.

NOTE: BF2 uses a lot of ports but most routers can handle them.

Step One:Finding out your local IP address.

Open up your start menu and click on "Run":

It will bring up a new window, type in "CMD" to go into Command Prompt:

Command Prompt looks something like this (ahh the good old DOS days ):

Now as shown above, type in "ipconfig/all", this will tell you the information we need about your local IP address (You should take it down):

Step Two: Access your router settings.

Fire up firefox (or IE if your into that sort of thing :hmm: ).
Type in the IP : 192.168.2.1 (This is the standard IP address to access the router)
This should bring up a screen similar to this (depending on router make):

You need to know your router password, the default can usually be found on the manufacturers website (For example SMC's default password is "SMCadmin".

Once you have entered the routers settings (there may be two options "advanced" is where you want to go). There should be a button to go to the "NAT" settings:

    Step Three: Configuring the ports.

Now that we have reached the right place you must find the port forwarding section. This is sometimes under different names, for example the SMC port forwarding section is called "Special-Application":

Now for the actual port forwarding, The screen you have entered should look something like this and you must enter the numbers shown exactally as they are:

(Note: The last port is there to play Counter Strike: Source, DoD: S, (Valve games) without errors (by stopping you from "sticking" to the ground) :) )

Some routers require that you put in you local IP address, thats where Step One comes in, remember that IP address you took down? Well now's your chance to use it. Most routers only need the last digits. It should look something like this:

    Step Four: Playing BF2 Smoothly
Well thats it now all you've got to do is go load up BF2 and enjoy your new found "connection error" free gameplay.

Hope you found this tutorial useful, i was nearly pulling my hair out over the issue.:p

Yeah but they got it wrong for my router (they generalize routers brands too much)

So you guys would recommend forwarding such a broad range of ports for BF2?
I thought only the server needed to forward those.

No it needs them even for a client.
