Shouldn't be hard at all, If you've recently played a 64 Karkand, You'll see that most people use claymores the whore time.

Before 1.2 it was the ability to jump-throw C4 and detonate while it was still in the air (hopefully far enough away from you to prevent damage), but wasting everyone else.....it was a cool trick when done right, and guaranteed to p*ss off everyone you blew up, it was deemed a cheap tactic (by just about everyone). The latest patch effectively ended this tactic by stopping the jump-throw.

I did it the other day on Karkand using claymores... Just keep dropping them down the most obvious routes of advance for the enemy attacking from the south of the map and it's not too difficult, though it helps if there's support about dropping ammo packs. I must have been dropping 6-8 at a time before being killed, then starting again...

Do it before the new patch comes out though, they're going to restrict it to 2 claymores at a time...

Yep ^^ is right. I usually never use the C4 very often. I gave up with the notion of getting this award. However, with the 1.2 and the claymores not killing your teammate now its rather easy to get the explosives award. Find a Karkand 64 player map. And start chunking the claymores at certain spots. Works best when you are US and the beginning of the map and the MEC are trying to hold you off. Kinda cheap I know but hey.. it works

Play sniper on a 32 player Karkand map, lay claymores at flags, near spawn points or points of entry like top/bottom of the concrete steps etc. Should be easy, I just got my vet explosives that way.

I got my vetern explosives badge playin on strike on karkand. Just be a sniper and spam with claymores where you know most people travel though (like the openning in fences) I need 25 kills which I did. I ended up with a score of 48 at the end of the round with only claymore kills, didnt use any other weapons.

Why not get it using AT mines? At least you don't get TK's with them anymore, and they cannot be blown up.

Best practice? Any time you kill someone who carries dummy explosives (claymores/mines), pick up their kit and place them. You may get lucky!!

Another strategy is to go to a map with choppers, and place C4 on enemy chopper pads or even better on the choppers. Hide and wait for the chopper to fill up, boom. Then get out and repeat. You can get 3-4 kills per chopper. Very challenging....

If you feel the need to use the infamous Jihad Jeep technique to get this badge (I don’t advocate it though, but without the ability to chuck in 1.2 your options are somewhat limited), do it on Warlord (use the ATV to get around on), it's smaller than Karkand and I personally find there are more available targets that can be caught in congestion points. You should be able to get it there, before they ban you for doing it......no-one likes this trick.

I did this today, and the game charged me a suicide for every time that I rammed a tank/apc/truck full of turkeys. What gives? I don't think it was like this pre-patch?

Yuck. No joy left as spec ops class. Well, hardly any; they got jihadded anyhoo.
