Windows Movie Maker keeps crashing!! Need advice!

I need some major help. Ive been wanting to make some BF videos for a long time so I finally capture some from the game with fraps. But now whenever I try to import my BF videos or almost any videos, I get "Windows movie maker has encountered an error" almost every time!! Does anyone know of any other movie maker programs out there or a way to fix this constant crashing?

I have the same issue but not as regular as yourself , maybe once or twice when in use . Have you done a Windows Update lately ? . This might help .

Windows movie maker just isn't the right choice to make movies, i suggest another *proffesional* program, like premiere 1.5 pro

It used to happen to me, what I did was click on the any part of WMM so that the error screen got minimized, then waited for it to finish importing, once done I would save the thing as a project and then let the error shut down WMM. For me, it wouldn't close WMM until I clicked what was it, the don't send button I think.

I would expect Windows Movie Maker to crash when you start to make things to complex. During my WMM times it was a case of doing something, saving, doing the next bit, crash. Restart, load, doing the next bit again, saving...
But if it's crashing when you import I expect it's just WMM that’s corrupted, or the video codec isn't recognised.

Jumping from WMM to Song Vegas is a best step. Over the past few days I've hit a bombshell of features in Song Vegas that really kicks ass (used it in my new titles I'm making)
I then realised I didn't need after effects any more, I could do it all in Vegas and for things I can do in the base program where Premiere Pro can't do without it's sister program my mind state completely changed.
Go for Song Vegas, when you really dig in deep to this program there IS a level beyond Premiere Pro that it can do much better and easier. Therefore, if things are easier you can perfect them better. The text generator is a giant sand box, where as Premiere Pro, it's just a selection of preset animations and templates.

The one snag is that Vegas can't do rain... (Like Sands of Fire rain)
I quickly picked up on how this was done in after effects and it is very VERY time consuming. The makers probably just got hold of a preset of the internet somewhere, which is where I stumbled across that same effect in Vegas - one plug in and I can do rain, anywhere, in half the time it takes to do in After effects. Just place the particle emitter, place the surface where the rain hit's the ground (with a choice of many effects) and it's done.

Ack! so much writing... told you I was 100% Vegas now...
So in conclusion, get hold of Song Vegas and Photoshop CS2 and combine the two......
Oh yeah, Photoshop is a dream!
What? you thought I was against Adobe lol, no no...
          Sony and Adobe forever!
          Good luck friend.

WMM, while easy, is virtually unusable with the amount of crasehs it experiences for the tiny things.

I recommend getting Cyberlink PowerDirector, or Pinnacle Studio, which are both very similar to WMM when it comes to ease of use.

For something more advanced, try Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas.
