Anything that works reliably is better than the VOIP built into the game ...

Sound quality is fine. Allows you to speak to your friends even if you're on different squads, or teams, or different games. VOIP you have to push a button to talk, Teamspeak can be configured to be automatic. Teamspeak has different channels, VOIP only has squad and command chat. Teamspeak you have to be playing with people to be effective, VOIP people in the game will hear you no matter who or where they are as long as all the settings are correctly set. So, you choose.

I use ingame and out of game voice.

Need to talk to my clan and the pubbies I meet on the server.

        Reach out and touch someone.

give team speak a go it's free to download most clans have a team speak or Ventrilo (like team speak) server that you can join and it does help towards a better game

Teamspeak and Ventrilo win hands down . I use Vent , find the codec more clear in game.

I was under the impression Vent used less. At least given the normal codecs used on the servers I visit between TS and Ventrilo. I don't notice any real difference in quality either, Vent is just as clear. And personally I find the interface of Ventrilo more appealing as it's simpler. I don't want some fancy GUI, I just want something functional that allows me to use the voice chat feature. :p

TS/Vent are much better than VOIP. The VOIP, quite frankly, sucks. It's a nice idea, but wasn't quite given the functionality it needed to be very prominent, such as no matter how much I crank up the mic settings or the VOIP volume settings, everyone is still quite and can't hear me? Not to mention you don't have the ability to edit a particularly loud user's volume (or a particularly annoying one :-P)

The existing BF2 VOIP makes my game run like $*!%. I use Vent whenever I'm playing with friends I want to communicate with.

                  [edit]

I should say, there was a few good days where the VOIP didn't make me put my fist through the monitor, but I think those "few" days totalled only two.
I sadly had to disable it again.

Ventrilo has much better sound quality and has a lot of nice features, big difference is Teamspeak is free and Ventrilo you need to pay for a hosted server, clients don't pay but someone has to host it.

Ventrilo also has some nice features which TS does not. text to voice is nice for announcing who gets in channel etc.

VOIP is ok, but most people don't have it configured right, half are too loud, other half too quiet. Plus not being able to talk to your whole team. But if you don't have a clan or "group" of people you play with on a regular basis then VOIP is your only choice.

Use Ventrilo. Its way better then Teamspeak much more clearer and does not suck bandwidth like other people say. Teamspeak is like Roger Wilco back in the day, its just terrible quality and cuts out. www.ventrilo.com

Teamspeak does not have terrible quality, you need to adjust your codecs if you have bad quality. Let's not spread mis-information.

my clan personally uses vent, its very clear and nice to have besides the voip which is hard to undestand most of the time.

I like the voip in the game better. For one, when you chat the loudness of the game lowers some so you can hear who you are talking to. In teamspeak or something else you cant hear the guy over the chopper blades or explosions unless their mic is just on booming loud. But it seems 80 percent of the servers i go into nowadays you try to talk but nobody hears you.

Same here. Enabling voip lags the shiet out of my bf2 eventhough nobody's talking. Vent on the other hand doesn't affect the gaming experience at all (that i can notice).
