I was wondering why does the demo run so well and the retail game runs like **** for me. I get about 30-50 fps on the demo and I can run it mostly at medium settings. The retail game i get around 17-35 fps with everything on low. Does anyone know why?

It's because the demo isn't as complicated as the retail:). I could explain this in greater detail with computer terms, but it all comes down to that

BF2 demo runs very very smooth on my PC but retail like a S***T. demo connect to the account in 5 sec. Retail in 1.5 min. Demo used all setting on medium sound on high-->smooth, retail mostly on low sound low ---> still s***ts.

Re: bf2 demo runs much better than the reatil version.
There are millions of more calculations and things going on at the same time in the retail version. This goes especially for ranked servers, as it records every single thing you do.
The times you play walking aroun with each weapon, in each vehicle, how many times you shoot, ect ect ect. Now multiply all that by 64 for a full server nowadays plus the rest of physics calculations and graphic rendering, and there you have it.
It takes much longer to connect, because, as I said before, everything is recorded and uploaded into BFHQ, so it takes time for it to retreive all your stats and log you into the massive server.Comment

Yeah there is something goofy with your machine. Granted I have another gig of ram but you have a better card. It runs awesome for me 60+fps 90% of the time except under heavy blinding battle, it will drop to 30+fps for like 2 seconds. But still very playable.Originally posted by xxCaptainBlackxx3.19 GHz XP SP 2

Its not just the demo. Install BF2 again, first version and all-you'll get those great framerates.
Just every patch=people having to lower settings (maybe not with the most recent one). Its annoying, it could be a good question for GW to put forward in one of his interviews.Comment

Re: bf2 demo runs much better than the reatil version.
For me everything was the same concerning FPS from the Demo to Retail Patch V1.12, but with V1.2 the FPS went down from ~30-60 to ~15-40. The bad thing is it doesn't get better when I set things from Medium to Low. (ATI 9800 Pro, tested with Cat6.1+6.2)Comment

Re: bf2 demo runs much better than the reatil version.
its the PATCH(S)
I noticed to but no one said anything. 1.12 gave a drop and no idea what 1.2 did some people said they got a little gain
Demo runs so much better and is just like when i first bought the game. Think it has something to do with sound beacuse lowering sound is the only thing that helps fps and city maps are the worst and im gussing beacuse there is more (sound) hitting off walls etc even if the player size is smaller it doesnt matter
demo is the game doesnt matter if its smaller. Never had a demo run better then final game most of the time its the othe way around..
quake/FEAR etc runs better on final game or the same..Comment
