About to upgrade my Comp what settings could i run?

here are my current specs

Compaq Presario SR1339UK
Intel pentium 4 processor 2.93ghz
512 RAM [2x256MB slots 1 and 3] DDR PC3200 184-pin
Ati Radeon X300SE 128MB
260 GB hard drive
dvd writer and dvd-rom drives

I am upgrading with another 2GB (2x1GB) of the same type RAM
At the moment i run at these settings
1280x1024 (because thats my desktop res and it makes alt tabing easier)
Terrain: Low
effects: medium
geometry: low
texture: low
lighting:medium
dynamic shadows/lighting: low
anti aliasing: off
texture filtering low
View distance scale: 100%

I typically get 15-30 fps with an average of 22ish but it is usually stutter free after the first couple minutes

What settings should i run after the upgrade?

The same.

The only diff you will see will be in load times & less jerkovision when the map starts.

Maybe bump textures & lighting up one.

yea u really wont see much improvement getting a new Video card will help a lot with the RAM.

Get a 6 Series video card, like a 6800GS or higher if you only have 512MB RAM, but if you're getting the 2GB, get like a 6600GT or something not so expensive.

the problem is my crappy generic 300W power supply wouldn't handle a better card and i wouldn't trust myself to install a new psu.

Installing a new psu is a doddle, just make sure you note down what's plugged in before you unplug everything, unscrew the old psu (easy) screw in the new one and make sure everything that you disconnected is reconnected. i recommend a Jeantech arctic 600w, or a hiper psu as they have modular cabling, which means you won't have a maze of cables to navigate. When plugging the new psu in as long as you don't try to force plugs you can't go wrong, it's fairly obvious what connects to what as all the plugs will have different connections. Give it a go, get a new graphics card and you should be able to get to a decent frame rate, i don't know how you manage to play with the fps you're getting! Try turning down the lighting effects and see what you get. Also IMHO with the memory you'll probably get better performance with just the 2 1gb sticks in 2 modules rather than having 4 modules of ram, sell the 256mb sticks opn ebay or summat.

as an aside i ran an x1800xt on a generic 350watt psu for a couple of days and it worked no problems, even overclocked through catalyst it was stable.

it is a doddle, but i have one tip, make sure you bring your old PSU so you can compare the size of the PSU case... i bought this targan and it couldnt fit my case :P lol !! you dont want that to happen...

but i highly recommend a new GFX and extra ram.. you dont need 2 gigs but 1 gig will do fine...
