    is this bs?

I was posting on anandtech.com about framerate in bf2 and this guys says, he averages 100fps all time at high settings on a 64 player server. This is is pc

    A64 3000+Venice 0517APAW@2700mhz (300x9)/1.534v
    TT Big Typhoon
    DFI LP UT NF4 Sli-D / 704-2BTa bios
    2x1GB Mushkin XP4000 (UCCC) @270mhz 3,4,3,8 1T 2.6v
    OCZ Powerstream 420ADJ
    eVGA 7800GT CO @ 550/1389mhz /VF700-Cu
    80gb Seagate sata
    XP Pro

you think he is just bsing? He says that his pc scores 9200 in 3dmark 05. My pc averages 45fps at same settings and scores 7860 in 3d05. I find his claims hard to believe

He's Right, So Does Mine :)
    Running @ 1600x1200 2 X AA & all dets maxed.

My 05Mark is 10450, BF2 loves a fast rig & will shine on a well managed system.

      Its BS.

No offense to the poster above, but people that say you can get constant framerates in BF2 with all settings maxed are deluding themselves. Lowering AA to 2x is a *huge* help towards consistency, but my system is an order of magnitude more powerful than both listed here and cannot produce a constant 100fps on a 48 person server in heavy action.

Review the fps for BF2 from the system review from HardOCP on the graph in this link: http://consumer.hardocp.com/image.ht...ZfNl8xX2wuZ2lm

      Graphed system specs:
      CPU AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Overclocked to 2.50GHz
      Motherboard ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
System Memory 2GB 550MHz DDR memory – Overdrive PC branded
Video Card XFX NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT 256 MB BIOS overclocked to 1.25GHz memory and 450MHz core

      Graphed game settings:
Everything set to “high” and running at 2x anti-aliasing at 2048x1536 resolution.
SP Strike at Karkand level with 15 bots.
Playable? Maybe to yes. Consisntent? No.

My personal goal when configuring the video is to keep the frames above 60 at all times while enabling as much eyecandy as possible and as such some settings *have* to be lowered, even on the burliest systems. The 512mb Ati and nVidia monster cards may not have this problem, but I guarantee you everyone else does. For the record I have an FX-60 at 2.8ghz and 2 x 256mb 7800 GTXs in SLI.

          Re: is this bs?

he is saying you can not get constant FPS over 100. When you type renderer.drawfps 1, you MIGHT get 100fps, but that will drop to 50s or 60s in combat.

you can clearly see this in the alleys of strike at karkand, 64 player map, full server, and an artillery shell drops in front of you, you will see you fps going from 100 to 50.

I have a similar system in fact i have 2 GB of DDR2 (667 mhz), and eVGA 7800 GT, and so on, and I get 50-70 fps on 1600 x 1200. but it isn't smooth.

Instead of turning down my AA, AF or texture quality, i turn down my resolution (1280 x 1024) and I leave every other setting maxed out. my AA is 16, AF is 16, and the quality is wonderful. PLUS you get amazing good fps, and it doesn't drop below 50s-60s in the worst cases.

What are his settings on?? They could be like 800x600 and all low.. you never know... (talking about the original post not Razorman).

              with the original post:

its possible but highly unlikely. he has a very fast computer OCed like crazy and 2 gigs of ram, it IS possible but I still doubt he gets 100fps 24/7.

                Re: is this bs?

who cares? anything over 30fps is a bit of a waste really isn't it? My rig runs at an average of 75fps with everything maxed, it drops down to about 50 fps when things get busy, a soundcard is on route which should help with this however it's not exactly a problem is it? I Just replied to a post by a guy who was getting 15-30fps averaging at 22fps! So as I said who cares?

                  Re: is this bs?

30 is kinda slow compared to 60. In games, 60 is the smoothest fps and beyond that the human eye cannot recognize the diff. Really hate it when the fps dips to 30.

                    Re: is this bs?

He's right when saying that he's getting 100fps, but imo he's lying (bragging) about them being at 100 consistent.
I get around 80 -85 fps avg. under action and on 64player servers. Most important is that it never drops below 75. 1280x1024 4xAA

Anything above 30fps is a waste? Dude... Have you ever played BF2 with 30 fps? Do you have any idea how unplayable the game gets with heavy action, and fast movement without blurring?
Maybe you'll be able to play at 30 fps if you never played on a system that is capable of 60fps avg. But once you felt the "smoothness" you're going to upgrade the system, or get sick of the game

                      Re: is this bs?

how do you get 75 minimum? even on iron gator? do you overclock? My pc is about equal as yours except not overclocked and no soundcard, but i don't get 75 avg. I only get 45 avg at same settings.

Is it because of your xfi sound card? I heard that they said "get 40% more framerate in battlefield 2" But ppl on the ea forum say that the card's claim are a lie

My 7800GT tears BF2 up at stock speeds.

I'm going to OC it too, I have the same one he has. Stock it runs 470/1100. 550/1389 is from what I have read acheivable on these cards. I get around 60FPS with mine, so its completely feasible that this is the case.

wow so you ppl never get fps below 60? Even inside warlord palace and inside iron gator? I really doubt it. Try actually typing in the renderer.drawfps 1 command and see what you get. I get high fps too but only for a while when there is no action going on then it goes downhill.

                            Re: is this bs?

well, yes my system is overclocked. And I have CPU and GPU watercooled, so they run quiet well. (CPU@2.79Ghz/1,5V, GPU@510/1100) I've been fiddling for a very long time until I got the components to run stable at those clock/memory speeds.

I HATE Iron Gator, so I cannot give you precise infor on whether my fps stay steady high.

But on vanilla BF maps fps barely ever go below 75.
                            Yes, I use renderer.drawfps 1 exclusively.

I have been working in the field of IT for some years now, and have done a lot of tweaking and changes to my systems. It does run very nice.
But tbh, I cannot tell you about Iron gator performance, as last time I played this map it was with my old 6800GT, and I recall that I had massive lag on this map. It is also a very boring map as far as I can remember.

I played on my laptop while i was getting my new rig ready and yes i know what the game plays like at low fps, and no i don't want to go back. So I'm sorry I'll retract my last statement! I much prefer 75fps!!!! Consider me told. Not sure about 40% increase in framerate with xfi soundcard, but it's got to help with minimum fps, which when it comes down to it, is the most important thing, no point getting mega fps if it drops right down when you need it! Anyone disagree?

Oh and Iron Gator is a lag-fest if you even dream of going inside, pants map, IMHO.
