Here is a PM I just got from "TheDR"
I play a ton of BF2. I gotta tell you though, this patch has got me so discouraged I'm ready to hang it up. How one patch made such a drastic difference is unbelieveable but it did. I think you guys were right on with most of the game play changes but....

I spend 90% of my time in a helo of some sort. OMG! It is worthless now! The sam sites and jets missles are ridiculously relentless. Before I could not hit crap while flying a jet. Now...I came in #1 in a clan competition because ALL my rockets were honing in on anything!!! Good?? NO! BAD! I suck as a jet pilot! It was only because it is now SO EASY to shoot at stuff.

When I fly helo all it takes is 1-2 people to actively try and keep an eye out for me. That's it, I am totally ineffective. I am ranked #35 on leaderboard for helos. I have flown my share. My scores are dropping drastically and I am dying 3-4x as much!! That's 3-400% more! I spent a lot of hrs learning to fly WELL and it was all shot to hell with one patch. It doesn't matter now. A noob can sit behind a rocket button, hit it and I'm dead.

Is there any talk of letting up on some of the helo crushing at EA ?? Maybe make the missles a little less perfect and give helo a little armor back! That's a whole 'nuther thing! The armor! If I blink too fast a noob in a jeep has peppered me from 100% to 0% !! So much for the noble helo on helo dogfight. It is so frustrating when I try but before we can spar a little machine gun has killed one helo or the other.

And tk's!! Good grief!! I am seeing way more everywhere because those darn rockets!! They WILL find something to hit! If not the enemy then prob a friendly.

Please tell me you guys are reversing some of the things you did to the helo. Please.

I have to agree with him, flying is not fun anymore. I was on "Clean Sweep" on friday nite, just cause I felt like flying and bombing. After one game I had 13 TK'S! I still got the Gold Star, imagine my score if the dam Sidewinders didn't home in on EVERYTHING!. They need to fix this issue NOW! I would be dogfighting, up in the clouds, and fire 1-4 sidewinders, if they missed about 30 seconds later I would get a TK notification, or a team vehicle damage notification, ON EVERY GD Missile! OK EA YOU ARE GETTING READY FOR A MASS EXOUDOUS ON MARCH 7th WHEN GR:AW comes out unless you fix this game now! I would rather deal with toobers, DD's and helo rapers, than continue to get disconns, tks and choppy framerates on a PC that gets better than average 3DMark06 scores. Time to step up DICE/EA

some of my reflections on helis in 1.2:

I play anti-heli alot on wake, espescially in the first 5mins(like everyone else I guess). The choppers go down the second time after the overheating has cooled back to normal, assuming every round hits. During this time some evade(actual tactics applied) or just have enough speed to carry on to the airfield. Do choppers that hover at somewhere resist all my .50 cal bullets? NO! and they simply shouldn't withstand a couple hundreds of those.

What kind of 'pilot' just hovers at a place and expect to live anyway? (lousy ones, whores and whiny noobs)

Imo skilled pilots(refering to helipilots) evades jeeps, and whatnots, and learn to hide, then get up and blow up a tank or whatever and then get away. Imo BF2 is rewarding players that follows those tactics with some skill.

Saying the patch is all anti-heli is pushing it. What kind of pilot would hover over an island with enemy airplanes and AA installations and not expect to get shot down/at:laugh: :wall:

I still see a reasonable amount of good heli crews on wake(play it alow recently) and the atmosphere is better now.

These are opinions, therefore all perspectives will be allowed, saying that you are a good enough pilot to stay in the air for 2+ minutes means your style of flying is different, that may not be applicable to all pilots. State whatever opinion you like. Jamie

:) I have about 6 hrs in helis so I fly when I get pushed into one. Other than that I'm a ground-pounder. Did I ever say anything about my flying skills?

If you want to simplify my opinions into one sentence, which you tried, I'll help you out: I believe that 1.2 brought about a better atmosphere in BF2 and that more conventional, actual, tactics needs to be followed rather than pretending that a heli is a hovering, indestructible, owning platform.


So this TheDR is someone you know, or he just likes you? j/k
