I was told to get a dedicated server thingy so i can play w/ my bud over the internet on a custom map... yet it doesnt work can someone help please? and sorry for posting in wrong place, its just no one reads that forum

sorry, i can connect to the server although he cant, it tells him to check his network connections...

also im running this off a computer to i have to actually buy a server? cause i just wanna mess around on a custom map w/ my friend...

You need to forward the necessary ports to the LAN IP of the machine that is hosting the game.

Find your router here:

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

And then click on the 'Battlefield 2' link to get step by step instructions on how to set it up.

ok thanks alot for your help, ill write back if it doesnt work :)) and do i have to have battlefield 2 on both computers cause i dont relalywanna sit through instal, can i just install the dedicated server to my other pc?

The server machine does NOT have to have BF2 installed on it. Just the dedicated server software, which is separate from the game itself.

Heck, you don't even have to buy BF2 to host a BF2 server.

oh and one more thing what do i make the ip? Do i list it as the ip of the computer?

When you give out your IP to your friends, you give your WAN IP (your internet IP..you can get it from www.ipchicken.com).

If you're connecting to your own server or if you're setting up port forwarding, then use your LAN IP (your internal IP...you can get it from running ipconfig in a command prompt window)

so sorry for my n00bness, so i would make the server on the ip that the chicken site gave me? or just leav it as my ip only have, and tell them to connect to that ip?

Tell them all to connect to the IP that IPchicken gives you.

But you may have to forward the ports on your router to the internal IP of that machine.

Try it first and see what happens.

ok well that works thank you alot, but i have another problem, i dont know if you can help me cause the linksys website couldnt, so here it goes...

i have another computer in my house that should be connected to my wirelss router(WRT54G) and i got a linksys PCI for that computer...

When i ask it to connect it only says that it connects to the network only thing is it says that there is no internet found. I turned off all the security cause i dont have anyhting important on my pc, and yet it still wont connect to the internet. THe funny thing is, i know that the Wireless internet works because my 360 connects to Xbox Live every time i turn it on, so i dont really know whats up....

Re: Well..

Make sure that under TCP/IP properties in the properties tab for the network card, you set it to automatically assign IP and DNS settings.

Also, ensure that DHCP is enabled on your router.
