unlockable weapon question..

Hello, this is my first time posting here, wasen't really sure where to ask this question but I thought this might be a good place.

I've got the chance to unlock a weapon, now I don't have either of the expansion packs, what I was wondering is..

If I don't unlock somthing and buy the expansion pack, will new weapons be available to me?

Yeah, plus if you buy the expansion pack you'll get a bunch of free unlocks. All of your unlocks can be applied to weapons from either the expansion or the original.

Strange i have the expansion pak and still have only been allowed to unlock the bf2 standard weapons, what give, i thought with the expansion pak you got the new 1.2 weapons

which expansion? special forces? you need to play a full round of SF, then the next time you log into BF2, you will be given 2 unlocks, plus the ability to now choose the SF unlocks. but remember you need to get the first level unlocks before you can move onto the 2nd level (SF guns)..for example with Spec Op Kit, you first need to unlock the G36C, then you can unlock the SCAR-L after that.

I think you guys are making this a little more confusing than it is.

With SF, you don't get any FREE unlocks. You just gain the ability to unlock the SF guns in BF2 WHEN YOU RANK UP. The only free unlocks you get were the 2 they gave in the new patch. However - you can use those 2 unlocks on any weapon. So, for example, you could unlock the first and second medic upgrade and have the G36E as a private if you had SF and so desired. Other than the 2 upgrades you got with the 1.2 patch, none of the unlocks are just "free."

That's not true. The "free" unlocks are based on your rank. After installing SF, I had 4 free unlocks. You do have to unlock Tier 1 weapons before you can get to Tier 2 weapons though.

I don't understand this? If im gunnery sarge, should i have got two free unlocks after installing the 1.2 patch? If this is so, i ahven't recieved them.

On top of this, ive just recently bought SF, and have as of yet recieved no SF unlocks, ive played a total of 5 rounds of SF over an hour or two. (I bought SF today)

In SF, you get 1 "free" or extra unlock at every rank after Sargeant, which is what you are referring to. I was talking about the 2 unlocks that EA gave away with the 1.2 patch to unlock the P-90 and L96A1. I am not sure on whether those were available to every rank, but I assumed they were.

Still doesn't explain the fact that ive been playing with 1.2 for several days and still no extra unlocks?

There should have been an unlock box that appeared a week or two BEFORE the patch actually was released. EA stated that this was done because it would be easier than releasing it with the patch. Those were the two unlocks that were meant to be used for the P-90 and the L96A1. If you used them for something else, those are the two I am talking about. If you didn't get those unlocks, then I'm all out of ideas. Sorry.
