I guess it could be a virus by definition, but it doesn't affect you. It's probably a bot that just adds people to its list, and then using the 'Friends of friends' list, it finds more usernames to add, and goes in a loop. Probably trying to get the biggest Xfire list possible.

For it to add you to your list, you would recieve an invitation, and you would need to accept it once you came online.
So you're home free as long as you don't accept any friend invitations from anyone you dont know.Comment

No. If your friend accepted it, he's still not a friend of yours, and not on your friend list.
He will appear on your friends of friends list, but that has little relevance to you.
I hope you're aware you can simply delete, or block, him if he is on your friends of friends list. That will solve your problem, if any.Comment
